Possible 10 bolt solution?
I've been talking with a friend recently about gears in my M6. I've always wanted 4.10s but have steered clear because I don't want to risk breaking the rearend. He had recommended me to try buying 4.10 gears and having his dad cryo treat them before putting them in to increase strength. Would this solve the strength issue of the gears? It may not be worth it at all. Just wanted to hear your opinions.

I'd trust a fresh properly built 10 bolt with 4.10s over a stock high mileage unit with a 3.42 stock gear. Want a slightly stronger gear? Select Motive Orange Box for a harder alloy. Part number G875410.

i broke mine twice with 3.73's on drag radials with a m6. thought staying away from 4.10s would help but didn't. launched easy no issues, but it was slamming second gear that got it both times . i dont have that problem anymore tho. its going to the scrap yard.

Trutrac upgrade hmmm. I've never thought of doing that on a 10 bolt. I've been worrying about mine at 470 horsepower I guess I can leave it in for a while

I have had a 4.10 gear in my car for the last 4 years. in a completely bone stock 10 bolt rear end. Best career pass on it was a 10.93 it never gave out. Some call me lucky but what ended up giving was axle bearing and axle seals. The center section would not die!

In school, a fellow senior design group (metallurgical engineering) set out to determine what effect cryogenic treatment had (if any) on the fatigue strength of racing valves. Various techniques were used including X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine any differences in crystal structure (texture/morphology). After a semester of searching they found no difference between those cryogenically treated and those before treatment. The conclusion of that study suggested it was more of a selling point than an actual advantage.
Now, I'm not saying that none of you racing veterans haven't seen a difference. I'm just saying there's little to no science behind it. It's more of a dark art. Simply a suggestion.
