Default Mounting small twins on the side of the engine. Pictures?

The block is a turbo level LT1.
The car, 1996 Z28, turbo'd these last 8 years with a 76mm single turbo.

I know that INTMID8 had an LT1 at one time that had twins on either side of the block.
Anyone have pictures of that or a picture of their own setup? I'm trying to evaluate that setup vs the one in the battery tray, one on the other side setup. I have the turbos already (GT35's 61mm. .63 A/R) and will look at my options. If I mount them on the battery/air box opposite sides, I can use my current hotsides headers which exit in front, near the rack n' pinion. I'd just add some risers to go up to meet the turbos. If I went to the sidesaddle, so to speak, mount, I'd weld up some log manifolds.

I'm fairly certain the side mounts would require an oil return pump since they'd be mounted so low. Plus my current return for my PT7675 is at the front of the Canton oil pan. I have the two wastegates already and my FMIC has been on the car since 2008 or 2009. I have plenty of Intercooler piping/couplers and quite an array of 3" mild steel for the rerouting of the hotside.

How much for them? Do you have more pictures of the actual turbos in place in the car from underneath?
Thanks,

Jim's old '97 SS is the best LT1 twinturbo set-up that I have ever seen, bar none. I wonder what ever happened to it or who ever ended up getting it?

Hey Dave, I'm fairly certain that you would require a scavenge pump to mount them where Jim did. Even with the Canton pan you would likely have drainage issues. For the intercooler I would look into something similar to a Treadstone TT dual in/single out style setup with small pipes running up to the intercooler or possibly picking up a used Procharger dual 4.5" setup and running each turbo to one intercooler similar to what Jim did with his setup. Either way I don't think you want to go through the hassle of trying to merge the two pipes into a single larger pipe before the IC or at least I wouldn't.

I would look at Boo"SS"t's build as well. It's an LS1 car but he mounts the turbos very similarly to how you want to. Always good for ideas anyhow. He's certainly given me plenty of bad ones and is the reason I have a hacked up set of 2010 manifolds on my old LS1 block in the garage. lol

PS. I thought you were mailing the GT35s to my house?

Hahaha.. yes, it was considered briefly... very very briefly... but being the greedy bastard my wife knows I am, I decided that this would be a good project over this summer. I really like Jims placement of the twins, but have always been amazed since the first time I saw his pictures of his car(last year or the year before?) that there is room in those locations for the turbos. I'm under my car all the time changing plugs or wires or gaskets or oil or manifolds or transmissions... I've looked at those areas several times and never thought a turbo of any size could fit in the cavity. I'll get under the car soon, taking off one manifold and push a GT35 up there to see how it does for fitment.

I don't know if you've seen my other thread about my fuel injector box issues but I *think* I've found the cause. Hoping to put the 95# back in the car. The 60# I have in there now are maxing out when I run 19psi. I've been as high as 21psi a couple of times. Right now, when I run at 15psi, the A/F ratio is 12.2 in 4th gear near 6,000 RPM.

Mighty quick I have Jim's lt1 setup that's going in my transam. It was already in my car but had to take it back out I had a problem with the oil pump and a leaking intake so it had to come back out . I'm changing to a single plane now. It is impossible to do any work in the car with this setup it is very tight but it does all fit. Jim did a great job with the placement I think i could even put bigger turbos there . I can send you some pictures if you want email me ( jcsbadta@yahoo.com) I hardly ever post( total lurker on many forums) and I haven't figured out how to put a pic on here.

I've always been curious what Jim used for turbo manifolds. Are they some custom shorty type headers or log style? I've never seen any pictures of that particular part. You need to post some pics of your car on here.
