I originally wanted a single turbo rotary car, and quickly decided against that for reliability issues. After Graduating College, I decided it was time to build the car into what it is today. I wanted a car that was subtle on the outside, but had enough power to be enjoyable. This car is reliable enough to be daily driven. It does not have any overheating issues. It does not have power steering or a/c. Not having either of these was never an issue for me. This car will drive like stock when you want it to, and you better be ready when you get into the pedal. The car is tuned on E85 and will get 20mpg on the interstate. The car will cruise around 1600 RPMs in 6th gear at 80mph.
CHASSIS: This is a 94’ Chase White Touring RX7. The car had 87,745 miles it when I purchased it. The car has a clean title and has never been wrecked. The car currently has 103,669 miles on it. The current build has less than 5k miles on it. The car is still running a stock suspension. The car is sitting on a set of Enkei RPF1 Hyper black power coated wheel s. Front wheels are 17x9 with Yokohama S-drive (255/40/17) and the rear wheels are 17x9.5 wrapped in a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets (275/40/17). I have Zero issue with getting traction as the car sits.
ENGINE: This is a 05’ LM4 aluminum block 5.3. The engine had less than 35k miles on it when I purchased it. Here is a list of the parts:
862 casting heads
Comp titanium dual valve spring kit
Comp trunion kit
Comp hardened pushrods
Cadillac Racing lifters
lS9 head gaskets
ARP heads studs
Baker Engineering 226/224 114+4 cam
Melling high volume oil pump
LS2 timing chain
Katech billet oil cooler adaptor
3 bar SD map sensor
TURBO SETUP: I originally bought a hot parts kit from Hinson Super Cars. I had several fitment issues with the piping and ended up modifying them to fit properly.
Hinson Supercars Stainless Steel Hot side kit
Precision Billet 6766 1.32ar turbo
Tial 44mm Wastegate(x2)
Tial 50mm BOV
Custom aluminum Cold side
Custom A2A 3 row Intercooler
Custom 3-4” Stainless Steel downpipe
Customer 4” Stainless Exhaust
Magnaflow Muffler
Setrab 25row oil cooler
FUEL SYSTEM: The car was originally tuned with on pump gas, and wanted to have enough fuel pump for when I wanted to increase the power. I strayed away from pump gas and got the car retuned for E85.
Bosch 044 fuel pump (x2) – runs on Hobb switch
Modified factory hanger
Mallory FPR
Trick Flow fuel rails
Weldon fuel filter
Bosch 127lb High Impedance injectors
DRIVETRAIN: I did not want to skimp on the drivetrain, because I wanted it to be as solid as possible. I decided to swap out the factory differential for the 8.8 IRS. This rear end choice would give me more strength that I needed and also give me several options for gear choice. I wanted to upgrade the axles, so they could handle the extra power the turbo v8 would produce. I chose the carbon driveshaft, because I wanted to save weight and also retain as much strength as possible.
Viper spec T-56 transmission (approximately 10k miles)
Monster Clutch stage 5+ clutch
Monster Clutch billet flywheel
ARP flywheel bolts
Pro 5.0 shifter
PST Carbon driveshaft
Aluminum Cobra 8.8 Housing
Ford Racing 3.55 gear
Eaton LSD
DSS 1k+ hp axles (best ones offered)
MaxMotorsports Poly Bushings
New Bearings and seals
DRIVETRAIN MOUNTING: I thought long and hard about which mounting kit I wanted to use for my build. The Hinson kit was cheaper, but the Samberg mounts were made of a different caliber. I opted to go with Samberg and invest more money into the build.
Samberg LSx K member – Chromoly
Samberg transmission mount – Chromoly
Samberg 8.8 cradle- Chromoly
INTERIOR: The interior is in great shape for its age. The typical map cover and passenger’s door handle are cracked/ broken. The car has tan seats and carpets, but the plastics and headliner are black. The driver’s seat is showing signs of wear, but it is not torn. Passenger’s seat is like new. Carpet is in good shape for its age. There are no major stains or water sports. I do have the floor mats for the car, but the undercoating is dry rotted and flaking. The rear bins are in “like new “condition. The bins are functional, as I use them for storage on small trips. The factory gauges are functional. The speedometer is calibrated correctly and accurate. All switches and ***** are where they are supposed to be and operate correctly. I do not have A/C, but the heat works and works very well. The sunroof is fully functional.
FJO Racing Wideband
Defi boost Gauge
Defi gauge controller
ARC titanium controller
BRAKES: I kept it simple with the brakes, as I am not using the car in a track environment. The car stops very well for what it is used for.
Factory calipers
Hawk HP+ brake pads
Cross drilled & slotted rotors
Stainless steel brake lines
EXTERIOR: I again wanted to keep the exterior very simple on this build. The FD has some of the best factory lines, and I didn’t want to take away from that.
99 spec chin spoiler
Blacked out parking lights
Efini emblems
COOLING SYSTEM: I decided to go with the Hinson Supercars cooling system. I don’t have any kind of overheating issued with this radiator setup. The kit was modified from original due to space issues.
Custom dual pass aluminum radiator
Spal pusher fan (x2)
High pressure radiator cap
Custom air separation tank
Custom radiator shroud
NEGATIVES: The car has original paint. The paint is in good condition for its age, but it is not perfect. At some point before I purchased the car, the passenger’s front fender was replaced. The car has a clear CARFAX, so not sure why it was replaced. The car has hail damage. Being that the car is white, it hides the damage really well. I had the damaged quoted by a PDR specialist (no drilling) and was quoted $2100.
The car was tuned by Hal at Dynosty in Louisville KY. The car made 659RWHP/680RWTQ on their Dyno Dynamics.
