Default Which shift kit, TransGo or TCI?

I'm putting in a Yank ST3500 and need a shift kit. Do I get the TransGo or the TCI with corvette servo? What is the advantage of the corvette servo?
Do I need or want it? Both kits are available from sponsors, but the TCI is
35.00 less.

either way , it will help , I did the b&m trans pak myself for 70.00 and it made shifts alot quicker and firmer.

I've had both and I prefer the TCI mainly because it's far simpler and easier to install. It also seems to work just as well.

If you want the best of both worlds (longevity, smooth part throttle shifts, & firm WOT shifts), then the "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit along with the Trans-Go vacuum modulator. This will give you the results that you want. The TCI & the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit (unmodified) will not do the job. I can attest to this from many years of building these units. If I can be of help, let me know?

What do I need to do to "modify" the shift kit? I've already ordered the TCI with corvette servos. I will be installing the kit with the stall converter next week.

"The TCI & the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit (unmodified) will not do the job."

Would you mind elaborating on this statement a bit? Many folks (including myself) have been more than satisfied with their TCI or Trans-Go shift kits so I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say that they "...will not do the job." Thanks.

When torque management (TM) became to be used more & more in the late 1990's, Trans-Go decided to change the kit. The problem now, was the HP rating of what the transmission could hold, went down (smaller feed hole sizes in the valve body plate). They could have instead, given you an extra page of instructions, (1) to have the option to disable the TM, this will allow you to use the earlier feed hole sizes to give you the ability to hold more horsepower (500HP+) that is with the 9.5" torque converter. (2) If you use the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit "as is", you will find that if you have more than 475 - 500 HP, it will be a short term fix, at best. When I build these units with 9.5" torque converters, I always use earlier setup for longevity.

I have an (apparently older) Trans-Go kit that I
bought but got too nervous to put in (too many
little things, half-assed instructions and grind on
the hardware). How would I know if it's the "old"
or "new"?

Not that I expect to encounter the 500HP problem
anytime soon.

There is nothing wrong with the late kit, the plate feed hole sizes need to be changed to match your engine, rear end gear ratio, torque converter size & stall, type of driving, etc.

i figured i would bring this post to the top as i am looking to get a shift kit for my tci 3500...tci recommends their shift kit saying that the trans go is more money and has extra parts you don't need...anyone running it? or should i just go with the trans go. Straightline performance will be instaling it, so don't worry about telling me about install ease. i want to know which is the better kit. my mods are bolt ons with 3.73 gears, 150 wet shot, and tsp 231/237.

I use the TransGo in everything I build. As far as "unused parts", they include a box of "Hi-Rev" springs in case you have the transmission apart.

FWIW, when your shopping for kits, remember that LT1/LS1 F-bodies came from the factory with the "vette" servo, so you don't need to purchase another.

Yes, thats the kit I use. It comes with the .500" boost valve, but not the vette servo. Your source appears to be out of stock.

I noticed nobody mentioned B&M shift kits. That was all I ever used when I worked on TH-350/400 cars. Are their kits not good for the 4L60 trannys?

B&M shift kits are junk. BTW, I eventually went with the TCI. I did use the B&M deep pan and supercooler though. The setup is great but I really need to change out the 2.73 gears to 3.73 to tighten up the 3500 vert. Sure keeps me in the power band a lot better now!And launches are awesome!

Thats right, if you get the TransGo, you won't be stuck w/ an "extra" servo. The link he posted was out of the kits.

TCI transmissions and converters are junk,(used to run them in my race cars until I smartened up), but people still like their shift kits.

I wouldn't buy a B&M trans or converter either, but what makes their shift kits junk?

Not argueing, just curious if their is a reason for your reply or just a personal opinion.
