Default Size of coolant hose for a "custom" bypass?

Anyone happen to know a the size hose I need to run from the radiator neck to the front coolant pipe to bypass the throttle body? I know that the first part of the hose is bigger than the second half. I guess I would have to put a good hose clamp on gutentite on the smaller end.

Are you talking about the TB coolant bypass free mod?

I believe it was 3/8 fuel hose that I used. Then I made sure to use good clamps. Search for some writeups. That's how I found out.

One side is 3/8" ID the other side is 1/4" ID. 3/8" hose should get you there if you tighten it down good enough on the small side. I used a coupler from a Brewery parts house instead of the one size hose. Hey nyg215, just how big is a reg ol radiator hose anyway?

That's exactly what I did. It's a much neater job than with a by-pass kit.

I used 5/16". A little snug on the 3/8" radiator neck but obviously much tighter at the block. Get 3 ft so you can route it where you want.

Question

I did the 'coupler' method and used a 1/4" barbed brass piece, it's tight enough on the 1/4" side obviously but I had to really tightem down the clamps on the 3/8" side.

My question is, am I potentially starving the flow/hurting anything by using that little 1/4" coupler instead of the more commonly used 5/16" one at all?

I have a 3/8" one I could use but it might not fit the smaller 1/4" hose.

I believe I'll try the 3/8th hose. Almost forgot I had started this thread. Duh. Think there's a real hp gain from this? I remember reading on bmr's site a guy picked up 6-7rwhp but I believe it was lt1??? Either way, I'm sure it's worth doing.

Not really, but on a hot summer day at the track with the car idling in the staging lanes (I only race in the colder months personally) it might help someone a tiny bit I think.
That dyno sheet on BMRs site is interesting though, I wonder if someone really showed that kind of gain over multiple dyno runs.

Another vote for 5/16 here. Like stated, snug at the radiator but fits perfectly on the block.

Anyone else just plugged the ends off? I just used rubber caps, because I did not want to run the hose for appearance reasons.
