Default Cam/springs

Did the cam swap & springs and it went really well. I used two 5/16th rods to hold up the lifters. Cam came out great as did the new one going in. I used the Larry Tool for the springs. I did the TDC method & compressed air, yeah I'm paranoid. I installed 918 springs and a TR 224 cam. Everything is pretty much done & I may start it in the next couple of days. I did headers, true duals & U/D pulley at the same time.

Pointers; Memorize the JMX howto guide. I only had to reference it a couple of times during the install. I took my time, I spaced the springs over a couple of evenings. I used a good strong magnet to remove the retainers. I did the entire install without any helping hands. It was easier though because I removed the A/C & condenser. I put the cam sprocket on dot to dot before removing the cam. Then when the new cam was in I put the cam sprocket on and line up the dots, then put the chain on. I was able to get it right on the first attempt. I thought the Larry Tool was a great investment of course I don't have anything to compare it to. I believe most if not all my lifters were still up 24 hrs later when I installed the pushrods. I could feel the lifters drop when I pushed on the P/R's.

Looks nice. Grats on the swap. I'm going to do mine this winter. Will be my first time. I'm scared as ****, but the Howto guide gives me confidence.

I did almost the exact same thing with the TR224, 918's, Larry tool, and air compressor method. It does go smoothly I agree. Were there any issues with using the 5/16" rod for the lifters. I used magnet pens but maybe I'll give the rod a try next time.

I rounded the ends and also ground one side flat for the entire length because of posts I have read where people say they don't go in. Well when I put them in there they went in so easy I ended up messing around for a long time afraid they would not stop the lifters. I mean they went in with no resistance at all like they weren't doing any good??? I finally just pulled the cam and no problems.

Well took it for a drive. It runs great, idles perfect, no surging, starts great, gas mileage seemed the same. It's really LOUD. I got an SES, no rear O2's, no air pump. Very happy with it. I am consindering not getting it tuned, what do you guys think. What are the chances that the A/F is not that bad? I don't have access to a dyno tune within a 500 mile radius.

Its pretty damn easy, but it is nice if you have someone local that has done it before to help out. Of course I learn alot with taking apart an LT1 for years so the LS1 is cake

What other method is there besides the air compressor method, other than the obvious removing the heads....

you can bring the piston to tdc and do it that way. the piston is supposed to keep the valve from droping out. air is the best way though
