Just want to know some guys said LT1 is better because it's more popular engine !!

This is a very opinionated question,so i will give you mine.The ls1 is a better daily driving engine,oh and before i forget its a better performing engine that gets better gas mileage,is easier to drive with stick,and is way more popular than the lt1.The lt1 was a popular engine up till 98.Then everything shifted to the ls1 and if people think the lt1 is still the more popular engine then they need there calenders changed ,and there head examined.I have lots of experience with both engines and the ls1 is better in every aspect.

couldnt have said it beter myself. and as the LT1 "craze" died down after LS1s came to be, now that the LS2/LS7(soon ) are around, i would almost guarantee that the LS1s stay just as popular as they have been. i know im keeping mine, and as soon as i need a second car, in about a year, i will buy another LS1 car.

Well if you get a LS1 for a daily driver chances are that it will be a better reliable engine than a older LT1. And in a daily driver you want a reliable vehicle.

ls1 def. it is lighter, better gas mileage, more power...the only reason i would go for an lt1 being nice for daily driving is the large amount of torque it makes WAY down low

Agree with the better mileage part. That's pretty important. Also less things that need upkeep such as the stupid optispark on the LT1.

As far as the torque down low on the LT1... some people might feel that's less streetable.

LS1 makes more torque than an LT1.

LS1 > LT1 in almost every way.

And its newer, and it doesn't have a faulty ignition system.

im gona have to agree with 2 pac here..

to answer the Q, i dont know jack bout the LS1.. but i do know the LT1. i can only add this.. after 130k, ive had to replace the optispark, ignition, waterpump, tranny, rearend, alternator, driveshaft, heater and hoses, radiator, thermostat and reprogram the PCM just to keep it as a daily driver..

i would also like to mention that some of these replacements (as i am a do-it-yourselfer) were a REAL pain in the ***!!

Not down low. The LT1 torque peaks much earlier.

ls1's do make more power but the LT1 is cheaper out of the box and mods are cheaper

but what side effects are caused by piston slap?? Isn't it more of a nuisance than anything else?
Same with oil consumption......still need to get myself a catch can , that helps.

LS1 mods will become cheaper once the LS2/7s are rolling around more. the LT1 is going the way of the dinosaur im kidding, LT1s couldnt be all bad, the dont put em in mustangs do they?

Like JRP said though... you keep asking the same questions. Time to start making decisions.

except for that garbage opti i wouldve thought they were equally reliable.


knowing the cost of that part and that it could go at anytime would discourage me from buying an lt1.



some people wouldnt care and just fix it when the time came.


i knew a few lt1 owners that got alot of mileage on their cars with an original opti.



overall an ls1 is more efficent and more reliable due to a better ignition system.

They aren't really big problems like people inflate them to be. Piston slap is heard of, but really doesn't cause any problems. And as many people that supposedly have it, the majority do not have the problem. If you have a car and don't know anything about it, then why worry?

The PCV problems are again, another thing that's not a huge problem. The LS1 is known to go through oil. So what. Check your oil and add accordingly. Best bet is to buy one of AMW's catch cans. Again, not a big deal.

Probably the biggest problem the clutch hydraulics. But when you put a new clutch in (which everyone will need to do), you just replace them. Again, it's not a big deal.

Think about how many LS1 vehicles are out there. Think about how many people are on this site. Stop worrying and start driving!
