Hypertech or Basic Tune at a speed shop...
What do you guys think, is it worth buying a Hypertech or going to a speed shop to have my car tuned up. I live right by Speed Inc. and they have a very cheap tune($150 for basic). Don't know if any of you guys have had their basic tune...is it worth having them do it or should I just buy a Hypertech?

i havent tried it either, but once i get my 3.23s put in i was goning to order their mail-order tune, but as everyone else says, no hypertech, hell even if the mail-order tune isnt that great, its half the price of the hypertech

you tell them what you got, and they send you a tune in the mail that you plug into the computers diagnostic port(under the dash below the steering wheel) no need for a dynotune, dynotune is better, but i believe the mail-order tune is better than the stock tune

150, i thought you were talking about the mail order to begin with, but go to their site and go to the pcm section, its the first thing on the list, it adjusts for tire size, gear change, fan temp turn on, injector size change, !skip shift, !torque management, !rear O2 sensor codes, desired idle speed for aftermarket cams, shift points........ if you couldnt tell i was pretty much reading that stright from the site

oh, ok. I didn't know that was a mail order. I thought that was something you had to go into their shop for.
Has anybody actually had this tune done to their car?

i would love to have mine dynotuned, but dont have the money right now, but i figure its a good deal for 150 because ive switched to the SS rims, and ive got some 3.23s coming in the mail so ill need to recalibrate the speedo, and someone once told me that one of the best things to do to an A4 is have the shift points set, unless anyone has had any negative experiences, im gonna do it after the gear install

Look into the Predator hand held tuner. It comes with a high performance tune in it that you can download into your car and then you can make your own adjustments to that. And if you want a custom tune Predator will send you as many as you want for free over the internet that you download into the tuner and then download the tuner into your car. I bought one two years ago and I have no regrets. I can do a tune myself that others pay as much as $500 for. Good luck.

PREDATOR (check my sig...)
dyno tune= one tune....
Predator= as many as you want... so let's say after every mod you can get a new tune from them. Predator is also a code reader...

i agree predator is miles ahead of hypertech in performance, but i would save your money and get edit or HP tuners. i can get LS1 Edit and dyno time here for 400 with free off dyno updates for your mods. look around before deciding

Get a dynotune, forget about handheld tuners all together, too little bang for the buck in all of them IMO. If your gonna do it, do it right the first time!!! And SpeedInc has a pretty good rep for knowing these cars as well.
