Default 4l60e trans ?'s

From research and specs I know that I have a 4l60e well I emailed a guy from a place called mad dog transmission who builds race transmissions at a good price to see what it would cost me to get a race 4l60e and I got this response:
Hey Boss, you have a 4L65E, they are $1,495.00, they have a different bell housing, and converter, I can build you one of my big dog 4L65E's it will handle up to 700 HP for $1,895.00, this will have the hardened input shaft N drum, oversized hardened sun shell, 5 pinion planet gear, and a extreme duty converter.
When I think about it, I don't know that he is right....but I could be wrong I thought maybe it was the revised 4l60e?

What vehicle do you have? If you have a 2005 Corvette, SSR or GTO you will have the 4L65E. The 4L65E was released for 2005 production from GM. Anything older than a 2004 will have a 4L60E.

I thought somewhere along the lines...sometime between 2002-2004 the vettes started using the 4l65e. (I know the fbody's only had the 4l60e stock.) But I thought the vettes switched to the 4l65e before 2005.

If it's a 4L60E it has 4L60E cast right into the side of the case like this one. If it has a one piece case it's a 4L60E. All 4L65E's have removable bell housings.
The 65's came out first in the big SUV's like the escalade.

i think the difference between the 2 is, 5 gear pinions, thicker input, and output shafts.

Pro-built is a very good company. Dana (owner) builds top-notch 4l60's and 700r4's, and his customer service is friggin amazing. Do a search and see for yourself...
