Default A4 spraying through shifts...

Is spraying through shifts safe? Just checking if window switch is NECESSARY. Thanks.

Do a search. This is one of those highly debated topics.

Bottom Line- I dont think its safe for parts, IMHO, it has to cause premature wear. But I spray from the line to the other end. I wasted the stock trans after 600+ passes, loads of nitrous, and ALWAYS Sprayed through the shifts.

As said above, highly debated issue. Mine didn't fair so well spraying through. Even if you plan to spray through it is a good idea to have a window switch just in case you hit the rev limiter.

I also spray from one end to the other. only for 3 passes i hit the rev limiter on 2-3 shift, i adjusted revlimit and the shift points and i was back ready to go. Luckily it has been 2 years with me spraying this car, and no big problems yet.

I lost my trans spraying through the shifts also. I wouldn't recommend it myself.

I sprayed my '97 C5 through shifts moocho times, no problems and no window switch. I would recomend adjustments to shift points/rev limit to your needs.

I always sprayed through the shifts with no problems. BUT I had rossler rebuld the stock trans with only 11,000 miles. The trans was in great shape but i new it would take a **** when i broke into the 10's. I wont be spraying through the shifts this year with the new motor and a 300 shot it will be more than it can take IMHO.

I have been spraying through the shifts but I ordered a window switch for safety and its a dial control so I plan to only spray through the shifts when I know I will need it...

You're at 345 now and could spray a stock longblock to maybe 450rwhp. Sprayed or not, there's a lot of A4s out there with 450 to 500 hp making many full power runs.

Dont you guys think by deactivating, and activating through shifts that the tranny will get hurt by the multiple shocks of on/off from the spray... versus just keeping the same load throughout the entire run?

So spray all the way huh? Scary. I have a built A4 with corvette servos, and kevlar clutches, and stuff. Just hope that spraying all through won't hurt anything.

I also sprayed from start to finish through my gears on my stock A4 with about 100k until it finally gave out after about 1yr or so of spraying. Like they said its a debatable subject. Every car is diffrent and will handle the spraying diffrent also. But it does cause premature wear & tear. IMO!!

So it causes MORE wear than spray, stop, spray, stop?

I agree with the highly debated thing. My name is Eric, and I spray through my shifts. Bottom line, whether you spray through or spray-stop-spray, you will lose your tranny eventually (and everything else for that matter). More power = more wear. Think of the boosted vehicles, they can't turn the boost off for a shift, why should you?

Window switch is just good safety, not made entirely to turn off the nitrous for a shift. Used so you don't spray too low or too high (RPM's).

So would a WOT switch work fine instead of a window switch? Or do you need both?

both, still need something to actually activate the nitrous. unless you do the fast and the furious push button style.
