Why adustable rocker arms/shorter pushrods?
Im about to have an engine ready to go back into my car..it's been broke since right around the time JPR registeredon this board..& the guy has like 8000 posts..So it's been broke a while.
So to the meat of my concern..The heads I'm getting have been milled .030".
Conventional wisdom says I should go with a set of .025" shorter pushrods, but I've been told that stock length is ok..Why did comp make them if stock is fine?
Okay the next thing I'm fence sitting on is rocker arm choice..
Im torn between YT's & Comp RR adjustable.
The cam I'm using is a 222/222, 566"/566" on a 112. I have given som thought on putting 1.8's on the intake & 1.7's on the exhausts..It's an old SBC trick that I dont know if its made its way into mainstream gen III acceptance or not.
Im running 918's with perimeter bolt heads..I've heard of after market RR's interfereing with either/or perimeter/center bolt valve covers.
Whew..
Experience/knowledge appreciated..

I guess I asked too much...
I didnt even get a search button **** response.
On thing that no one's been able to answer...
Why switch to an adjustable valve train?
I assume GM went non adjustable on GEN III's for emissions compliance reasons.
As if to take one more variable out of an incompetent machanics hands to screw up driveability.
Why undo this by installing aftermarket adjustable rockers?

Here's what I got..I have an LPE shortblock sitting in the crate..Before they shipped it,they installed/degreed a GT2-5 cam.I also got their "stage III" heads(roughly equivalent to MTI stage 2R's/3's in terms of flow).
They said they milled 'em .030" & it's still ok to run stock pushrods...I am trying to get a second opinion based on people's experiences.
What I'll probably do is just get the car running with known good components(stock rockers /pushrods) & take it from there..I just thought it would be cool to have it all set up before the engine goes back in..It's alot easier installing that stuff without a car around it.

I thought the lifters would need to be pumped up before I could check it..As in ether running on a dyno or actually installed in a car.
Now to anyone using an adjustable rocker.
Is the method for adjustment the same as a SBC/BBC?(adjust until all slack is gone/in a pattern based on fireing order?)

The damage I wraught..
Destruction
I figured Id put this here rather that start a new thread about blown motors..
What's not visible is the empty #7 bore where a piston is supposed to be.(it all ended up in the oil pan)
