Default SY3500 lacking?

ive been testing my SY3500 today. well i need some info from u guys. at around 40-45 mph i stomped it and the tires didnt break loose
i thought for sure that this stall converter would definitely burn em down at that speed. is this normal with the SY3500? i mean i could tell a difference but just thought it would have broke the back end loose?? TIA

Did your rpms jump up to 4500 when you mashed it? If it did, it was doing its job. Actually if you held traction and performance increased, you got exactly what you needed.

yeah it did but i thought a SY3500 would put down more power to the real wheel and cause major tire smoke

so what do you think is making the power to get that MAJOR tire smoke? your filter or cheap exhaust? you dont have the power to do that, stall or not, unless you've got more than is in your sig.

The SY3500 doesn't have a very high STR. In other words… it won't hit as hard.

Longtube headers should be your next mod.

FWIW, STR is measured at zero rpm on the converter output shaft. The Only time the car sees the full STR is at launch assuming no wheel spin and an ability to brake stall close to actual stall. The torque ratio decreases quickly after launch on most high STR converters. By the time you go through the 1-2 upshift, you'll have 3300+ rpm on the output shaft. At this point, shift extension and blade angle become the biggest factor in generating a positive torque ratio (i.e. torque multiplication).

the SY3500 works great for mantaining traction from a dead start and will pull strong thru the mid range to top end
here is some info for you to look at
you will see the range of performance of the lower STR of 1.63

Traction is a good thing a 45. Smoke is nice but traction wins races.

Gee with my sy3500 in the c5 I was able to stay with a z8 BMW he had 400 hp and mine was somewhat stock headers and TC WITH 3.42 AND WE
were dead even from a roll and at the track I beat his time by a bunch
I ran 12.89 and he ran 13.50 all with stock tires.
It was great fun and the sy was the difference.
