Default Twisted Stock Driveshaft in Half (Pics)

Went to Capitol yesterday. The car ran a best of 11.81 @ 118 NA. It was spinning a little bit, but on the third pass it hooked hard and snapped the DS in half. This was on E.T. Streets, and a 3800 dump with Spec Stage III clutch. I thought it looked pretty cool, so I thought I'd post some pics.

Seems like yours put up more of a fight than mine did. I twisted mine about 6 months ago on BFG's dumping the clutch at 3500. Mine twisted closer to the tranny side though. Might want to try a stock steel one. Don't hear of many people pretzeling those.

Damn! Yeah, I might look into a stock steel one for now, but I eventually want to get something with 3150 U-Joints on both ends so I can ditch the conversion U-Joint going from a stock DS to the Moser.

Looks familar....broke the DS at Craptiol...errr..Capitol too. Is the rear ok? We thought the rear was ok at first..until we got it to the shop..the rear ended up taking a also.

Talk to Jason at Fbody Central...he can get a steel driveshaft from a local shop in Glen Burnie for cheap. It was somewhere either $150-$250. He was also able to get it made in ~2 hours.

Yeah, those guys are great! Bret from Fbody Central was at the track. I talked to him and he immediately found me a stock aluminum DS for me to borrow to get the car home. I'll be calling him in a few days to talk about returning his DS and possibly about having a steel one built.

Let me know what you might want for it. I would probaby pick it up to use until I scrape up the funds for something with beefier u-joints. Thanks!

I'm running on of the "local driveshaft shop" steel units, no problems yet.

Wont a steel driveshaft rob a few ponies due to its heavier and thier will be less rotation due to its weight, just a thought.

In a sense yes, but since the diameter of the mass is so small, I doubt it would be noticeable at all on the dragstrip. Hell, even if it were, its worth it for the sense of reliability. 12 bolts are heavier and take more power to operate, but they're worth it IMO. Otherwise you could never apply full power without risk of breakage. For me, it's definately time to upgrade to something more heavy duty.
