Yehah!

I made the 12 second club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drive:

Well guys, I finally made it into the 12's. The Nitto's really made a huge difference. I went from a 2.19 60ft best to a 1.805. The car really hooks quite nicely. Check out the time slip and tell me what you think. Mine is on the left.

:werd: Now I just need a decent rear end to hold that traction. ;)

CONGRATS! Feels good don't it Doug? I knew your car would do it. Now you need to get that tune straightened out & see how fast it will go. Is that the pass you hit the limiter on?

Thanks to all. It really felt great getting that time. :) And yes I did hit the Rev Limiter on this pass as well. :eek2: I do think a decent tune will get me even a better time, but we will see.

Congrats Doug! :D That was a hell of a run... your car runs real strong, I'd say you'll pick up another couple tenths if you tweak the tuning so you're not running into that limiter.

Now I just gotta get my shit squared away. This clutch business is really starting to piss me off...

Nice work, you couldn't deserve it more, now get the tune strait and give it hell

I don't think you did... the problem actually might be the DOT 3 fluid I'm using has too low a boiling point, plus there might have been an air pocket in the system. I opened the reservoir and looked in, the fluid smelled burnt, it was blackish color (and this was new fluid when I put the clutch in), and it looked like the fluid was low (just at the very bottom of the reservoir).

Since I don't have a leak, it tells me (correct me if I'm wrong) that there was an air bubble in there, it worked its way to the top and out of the system, lowering the level in the reservoir by a little bit (looked about 1/4" lower than it was before). So, the boiling fluid plus the air bubble, might have been the cause of my problem. So I'll flush the system, refill with good high boiling point fluid, and go give it a try again.

Last time I saw Ellis he recommended a good clutch fluid with a higher boiling point........I don't recall the name but if you ask him, let me know (I forgot it). ;) Mine gets mushy as the car heats up/after my 1st pass at the track. :(

In the order of quality AND $$$

1. Castrol SRF ( $32 per PINT ! )
2. Motul 600 ( about $16 per pint )
3. BMW racing fluid ( about $12 per pint )

Nothing that available over the counter has ever worked very well for me in my brakes while road racing. I put BMW racing stuff in there and problem solved. Heat is heat is heat and if your fluid is dark in your m/c then you definitely need some racing spec fluid in there. You also may need to bleed a little bit more out after EVERY drag strip event to get some more fresh fluid into the slave where the killer heat occurs. I do this every open tracking day. You don't need to bleed the entire system out, just flush out the slave ( or caliper in my case ) Do the make speed bleeders for our clutch slaves ? They really make life easy if they do.

I think you'll have to mail order all of these unless things are better in the big city than they are up here in the weeds :)

Jason I have an extra quart of the BMW stuff I'll sell you if you want to try it out ?

The stuff i use for racing in he clutch is ferodo. The circle track guys use it in there brakes and i have been told people have melted brake rotors before this stuff has burnt up.

I have had no problems with it.

Mine didn't ever get mushy at all... it just hung in 2nd gear, then it wouldn't go into 3rd or 4th, just as if there were no clutch there. Pressure was fine in the pedal...

I think I'll take ya up on that offer Bill... I don't know what a place like Strictly BMW in Bellevue (right down the road from where I work) would charge for their stuff, I'm sure the markup would be high especially with the "Bellevue Tax".

I saw somebody selling the Motul 600 on eBay for $13 a pint, but once you factor in shipping, it's probably right around the $16 a pint that you're talking.

The thing is, the clutch pressure was all ok, which was puzzling. Now, the fact that the fluid might have been boiling explains why it wouldn't go into the next gear. Still doesn't really explain why the rpms hung like they did in 2nd gear... Gah... I hate clutches! :bang:

Hmm......weird. I know mine is from installing long tubes. My clutch was fine all 5 passes when I had stock exhaust manifolds but after my 1st pass with headers it felt like it sank directly to the floor just by barely touching it......freaked me out till someone explained it to me. After it cooled off a bit, the pedal pressure came right back. :)

Tranzor

Well, took it out for a some test runs on the street today... and under even slightly aggressive throttle, the rpms hang in every gear when I shift. :bang: So, it is slipping... but I think it's not because the disk is fragged, but rather I think its because of my resurfaced billet steel flywheel. I may have to either shim the slave so the clutch disk is closer (my clutch engages damn near the top of the pedal at this point), or just get a new flywheel. I just hope the disk isn't too far gone that I can't just reuse the same clutch... :(

You and your damn clutchs jason, Tell you what when i pull mine i will box it up and send it to you, then maybee you could get more than a few passes before it goes :jest:

The way Boyce is talking about a new clutch he might have his very lightly used dual disc McCleod for sale ? It's worth asking about anyway

 Now there's an idea...

RAM makes a shim to put behind the slave that's supposed to fix that geometry problem with a resurfaced flywheel, so I may try that... or I may try a whole new flywheel. I really doubt the clutch disk itself is so fragged it isn't good anymore... its a damn iron disk for godssake, it should be ok.
