Default to those who drive open headers

ive got a set of Hooker headers that will be going on soon, but when i put them on i will be going with a set of TDs, the only problem is the guy making the TDs makes them at his house on the car

so my question is do i: A). put the headers on and drive open headers a good 45 minutes to his house

B). put the headers on and get the car towed to his house

C). buy an ORY and use that for probably no longer than a month

and to those who drive open headers, ive heard that if you drive a long way and then turn the car off with the headers still open that you can warp your valves, is this true?

I'd say c if u want to spend the money. But i don't think 45 min. is too bad it might get annoying though. I don't believe the valve statement. Good luck.

i have ran open headers w/only cats since January and I have had no probs, you will lose a little hp for not having any back pressure but you should have no probs at all.

I might suggest putting on extensions to help with the o2s, but if you can deal with the noise open headers are fine.

the noise and loss of power is no concern becuase i will be putting them on over the weekend and then takeing the car to his house for the exhuast

what im worried about is the trip there, will i cause any damage to the motor driveing that far with open headers

as for the distance, if anyone knows IL, im going from Aurora to pretty much Route 66 Raceway

It will cause you NO problems. I put on Hookers last weekend. I drove the car for a few days with only them on. At low throttle it is not bad (even cruising). Of course, anytime you hit the gas, you will burst any eardrums within 500 feet!

The problem with warping stuff in the engine comes from days when people used to think about running with NO headers. Basically, straight pipes coming off the engine and going up out of the hood. The headers are plenty long enough and hot enough to warm up any cool air that creeps into them after shutoff. Plus, it's summer - you won't have 30 degree air to worry about.

I know that low end power will be lost, but wouldn't high end give mad numbers with open headers?

Unplug your O2 sensors before you drive with open headers. Your car will stammer bigtime under 3K rpms...........better or worse depending on how close your bungs are to the opening of the collector. Watch our for Johnny law, that is a easy way to get a ticket.

i'm runin open headers right now, the only problem, is its really f-ing loud. if you see a cop i recommend throwing in the clutch or in N. if you keep the rpms low it wont be very annoying. oh and running the headers will help the computer adjust everything..

This is right, with a good tune. But you could ruin your o2s that close to the air. And i think if you take your stuff with you incase you get stopped, and if you did just show him and say your on your way there, most cops would let you go. They are most of them reasonable guys. But dont slam on it.

You just have front 02 sensors, for your rears you will either need them tuned out, or to get o2 sims.

I almost have open headers. I have the collectors then the cutouts. It sounds great and no problems with the o2s. After driving it with open headers you might begin to like it . While just driving its not that loud, but as soon as you take it up past 3k your ears are bleeding. Make sure on your drive over you drive next to someone turing about 3k and gas it just a little bit. The echo is insane .
