Will factory manifolds come off w/cats attached?
My rinky dink air wrench will not break the bolts loose where the cats connect to the manifolds. Last budget tool I buy.

I'm not sure if they will or not. I know it was quite a hassle for me to get the manifolds out with the cats taken off, so I would imagine it would be even more difficult with them still on.

I got mine off by taking a small 2 1/2 ton jack and lifting up on the ratchet with it. I forget which side it was, but one of the manifolds/cats came off together as the cat is very close to the manifold so I didn't even think of seperating them first. Pretty sure that was the driver's side.....

I was able to get the drivers side manifold off along with the cat. I think it was the drivers side, its the one where the cat is really close to the manifold - its been a while memory is not that good.

Go chemical on its ***. Get yourself some "Rust
Eater" or similar, hit all three studs with it a few
nights in a row, let it work. Last thing you want
is to put full grief on it and snap off a stud.
An impact gun would probably eventually rap it
loose but a little of the right juice will make it a
whole lot easier and higher probability of being
intact at the end of it all.

Well, the drivers side hit the ground, cat and all. I have 1 nut / 1 stud off the pass side, the other nut is rounded. I've been soaking these ba$tard$ for a week with PB blaster. I've heated them red hot with a (propane) torch. If the other side won't hit the ground, maybe I can get it low enough to get the dremel to it. Well, thanks everyone. Back on my old back again.

The secret is to get the front of the car high enough off the ground. Put the rear tires on rhino ramps, then the front on jack stands (from the K-member). This should give you enough clearance to get them off in one piece.

If you don't have room to get the manifolds/cats out from the driver's side in one piece you definately don't have enough room to slide longtubes up. As krab said, gotta get it UP.
