Default Need quick response - Transmission work estimate

2000 T/A, 55k miles.

My clutch pedal was sticking to the floor, and it would sometimes be hard to get it out of first and reverse. Figured it had to do with the slave/hydraulics.

I got a call back from Cottman Transmission, and they're telling me $1580 for a new slave and master cyl, clutch, pilot and release bearings, resurface the flywheel, and labor.

My extended warranty is only covering the slave cylinder, or $320 of it, which leaves me with about $1260 to pay for everything else.

Also, they're wanting to put a "Luke" clutch in. never heard of them.

That's a big chunk of change.

I just had all of this done and it cost me $863 at MTI off of Dairy Ashford. They put in a new Slave, Clutch Plate, Flywheel, Pilot Bearing, (Removal and installation of tranny was $350 of the cost) They did it all in about 4 hours. Another shop put in a master cylinder for $150 but since that did not solve my issue they refunded me the money and i kept the new master. Call Jeff or David at MTI tell them what you need they can give you an estimate will be cheaper that $1500 for sure! The slave only cost $160

No warranty was offered. However it goes out anytime soon they'll get a call from me.

However when I got my car back it felt better than it has ever felt. The clutch is tighter the engages much better. Like I said call David or Jeff tell them whats going on and you can inquire about a warranty too. However I dont think the offer warranty on that work. The do offer limitted warranty on motor work if I am not mistaken.

i got quoted 1133 with a new master. $400 for labor, and $425 for an ls6 clutch kit. i can get the ls6 clutch for 300 from a sponsor, so about 1008 total.

i'm already losing 375 from the labor and inspection of the transmission from cottman, but i'm thinking it's worth going to mti and getting a new clutch and flywheel as opposed to a "Luke" clutch, and resurfaced flywheel.

so what would you rather do?

save $100-$200 going with MTI and new Z06 clutch and flywheel.
or pay the $1266 and get a "Luk" clutch with a resurfaced flywheel and a warranty.

I went with MTI they fixed me up and everything is good so far. The guys there are good and quick at what they do. Plus you are going to get NEW parts not resurfaced parts! I am hoping all my parts will last me another 80,000 miles

actually, it would cost me 175 more with mti, since i have to pay the 375 at cottman.

i think i'll just tell them to go ahead with it.
