Default TR230/224 Users?

Who runs this cam? I haven't been able to find a lot of feedback on it.

Just search for keyword "TR230" and tons of info will appear. It was a very popular cam a few years ago.

I have it and like it a lot. Makes great power throughout the entire rpm range. Runs great in my daily driver with a tune. Don't have dyno numbers but will soon. Sounds pretty good too

I did a lot of searching and didn't come up with "tons" of info but some. I have decided to go with it though.

I think I may go for heads too since Patriot is having a good sale, and it would be easier to get it all done at once.

I would think 420 to the wheels with a real nice powerband would be do-able through an A4 with this cam, some Stage II 243 heads and a good tune. Exhaust consists of Pacesetters through a TSP Rumbler X system.

One question though...why has almost everyone "moved on" and not kept this cam? I think it's awesome given the daily street application, and not having to wind the motor to the moon to get power out of it like a lot of the "big" cams people go for nowadays.

Gawsh, didn't you know? Bigger is better!!! Can't tell you how many times a bigger grind has made less power than mine, run slower, eat up more valvetrain, and suck more for daily driveability. What I don't understand is how people take certain advice off this board, but then ignore very helpful advice such as "choosing the right cam"

I have the TR 230/224 and I have ran it for a year now. The car put down 390 RWHP. And ran a best of 11.90 @ 116MPH. And 10.82 @ 126 on a 150 shot from a TNT F1.
This cam is very streetable. And will be fine foe a DD. IMO.

I love this cam. But I want to step up to something bigger. I have a G5X2 spec cam going in with some TEA 1.5 5.3's and a 90 setup. My goal is 450 RWHP.

You will be very happy with the TR 230/224.

I have the 230x224. I do not care for it at all. Sounds great with a cut out. But not happy with the overall performance. With my bolt ons I only gained about 25rwhp. And I had it dyno tuned 2x's. I am probably going with the t-rex cam over this winter.

A few years ago, I had a TSP 231/237 in one hand and a TR230 in the other.
I installed the TSP231/237. It was good for a 'lil more peak power at the expense of some low end. Cam-only, it trapped 118mph, full weight, stock sized tires. In retrospect, the TR230 would have been probably a bit funner to drive around daily, as the powerband is more usable.

Most people will tell you to go with a standard split cam for LSx applications instead of a reverse split like the TR 230. The only applications that I have heard of an advantage for the reverse split is with stock LS1 heads. I would go with a standard split if you plan to add heads. Call TR and talk to them.

I will do that, but I was told you would benefit from a reverse split up until the point where you go to a Fast 90/90 setup and remove your intake restriction...

With the addition of heads then, what if I bumped up the exhaust a bit? Say 230/226 .575/.568 112?

Oh and niphilli, your sig pic says 682rwhp, and below that its 681rwhp...which is it?

I have a 230-230 591-591 114. Comp XER. I think its great. 390 with stock 00 heads, ls1 intake and stock pulley. Driveability is good. I'l have new number shortly with heads & 90/90 - shooting for 450 with that cam.

I like it alot, the only thing I would change is the lift. I'd be happier with .600/.600 or thereabouts. After I get into the tens with it I'll probably switch to a TR236/230 just for fun.

Just for kicks I opened up the Desktop Dyno file I made for this engine...and when changing the intake duration and exhaust to 224 .563 (so there is no split, like the TR224) the engine picks up some HP? Only change was changing the 230 to 224 and .575 to .563...

Anyone know why? This is on a well-flowing LS1 (heads, headers).

Maybe just a quirk in the program? I don't know, no one replied to that one...

Anyway i've decided on the TR230 BUT - I want to modify it a bit. What would you guys think of bumping up the duration 2 points and the lift proportionately?

TR230
230/224 .575/.563 111

TR232
232/226 .579/.567 112

?
