Default I reallllly f'ed up now...

So when I took off and put back the oil pump I left two paper towels in the oil pan. I was using them to make sure that the pick up tube bolt would not fall into the oil pan. So as I bolted back up the oil pan I forgot to take them out. So I started the car for 5 seconds and tunrned it off due to no oil pressure.

Now that I tore it apart again I have realized that I left the paper towels in there...So am I fucked or what?

I got some of it out but its not all of it. What should I do?

I cant believe this bullshit...sorry for my ignorance

that really does suck seriously. did it get into the oil pump G-rotor? if so that is sucks even worse. you need to clean everything that you can. dont know how you "prime" the oil system like you can on an old sbc. maybe someone else knows what to do.

That sux man! There was a local guy here that built a 402 Ls1 with heads, cam, and built for buttloads of Nos. He left a rag in the oil pan. When he started it, got caught in the crank and trashed his block and rotating assembly. Don't know what to say to help. Sorry.

Well ****...its paper towels not a rag. Not sure if that matters.

But I am seriously done working on my car. I have had it together and apart twice now. Its all because of the ******* oil pump as well. If it would of started when I had it together the first time none of this would of happened.

I am just going to have it towed to a shop or something because this is really rediculous. I have been ******* with this car for way to long now

You'll prolly have to pull the pan and see if there still intact. The rags are probablly blocking th epickup right now causing your no oil pressure situation. My guess would be that the towels are shredded throught the motor, but I doubt they were sucked through the screen on the pickup. You may get lucky and be able to remove the pieces, but either way will require removal of the pan. How you get the pan out is up to you.

Yeah thats what I was afraid of. I got most of it out it looks like. But I can still see some hanging from the crank (guessing that is not good lol). I really dont have the patience anymore to **** with this car, its just got to the point where I am done unfortinitly.

Got to find a shop around here and I ll have to have it towed

Maybe a new 402???

Yeah I know, I really cant believe I did this. I am seriously so down on myself right now.

But I pulled what was about a 3/4 a paper towel off of the crank while someone turned it over for me. I did not see anymore on the crank so I guess thats good.

Thats just it, I had no oil pressure to start with. So I had to tear it down and **** with the pump and put it all back together again.

So just keep crankin it with the pack disconnected? Thinks that ok and all?

The reason he dosen't have any pressure is because there is a paper towel in the oil pickup in the bottom of the pan. I would not turn this motor over until you are sure you have the towels out. If you removed 3/4 of one, that leaves 1 1/4 left in there. I hate to say it, but that pan needs to come off so you can clean the oil pickup.

Yea I know... I got some out - I am guesing one and 1/4.

But yeah the pan has to come off...I had some rod bolts I need to install as well. So I guess it worked out alright.

Is this anything that would **** the motor up? I mean if its just all in the oil pan will I be good you think?

I still cant believe how retarded I am

I agree, it suxs to have to drop the pan anyway you choose to go about it,but with that done(cleaning out the P towels, you can also check the oring on the pump in plain veiw ) I perform a ton of cam/header/heads/gear installs and welcolm the work, and even though you are ready to spit nails right now, take a bunch of deep breaths and finish what you started. You will be so glad you did in the end. Fingers crossed for the original poster

My little brother did this same thing after working on a car til like 8am over the night, but he turned it off as soon as there was no oil pressure.. Which was like a 1/4 mile down the street... lots of pushing.. I was tired.. lol. He cleaned it out.. removed all the paper towel bits, and flushed a few quarts of oil through it.. Car still runs strong today after well over a year.
