Sorry to ask more questions about this '02 Formula.......would an extended warranty be a wise investment on this car with only 30K miles? It will probably run about $1,750.......It's not going to be raced, just mainly a daily driver with an average of 15K miles/year.

I know Consumer Reports sucks, but now they've got me paranoid with their "poor reliability" rating of the engine...as I am no mechanic .

I've never actually saved any money by getting an extended warranty. So far, I've always paid more for the warranty than the money it saved me in repairs duing the coverage period. I don't think I'll bother buying one anymore.

$1750 + financing if the put it in the loan - I say pass. 30K on an '02 is low mileage. Bought mine new and wasn't going to race or mod it either.

If you can get it cheaper go for it. I had the opportunity back in 02 to get it for 800.00 and did not. A couple of months later my knock sensor went out and also did my warranty. The tab for the knock sensor? 1000.00. Lesson learned for me. See if they lower the price about 50%. Its piece of mind even if you never need it.

on these cars...id say its a "must" have.

i bought mine for 1200...
and so far have replaced the vehicle speed sensor(450.00) power window motor(250) power anntenna (275)

you guys might think its a must but it really isnt. unless you dont know how to do anything that stuff is total BS they charge that much esp the easy stuff. i had a warranty (factory) and never used to. these cars are very reliable if you take care of them. my friend has 112000 miles on his, beats the ever living **** out of it and only had to replace 1 knock sensor and the posi in the rear (at 100k miles)

yeah thats why it was the dealer, im just saying that becuase those high prices will scare people, knock sensors are cake to replace yourself too

Amen for the extended warranty. Granted, yours is only 30K on the odometer but, do you have first hand knowledge of what the guy did to it prior to you buying it? Let's face it, these cars are purchased to be beat on, I know mine was. I wasn't going to buy the extended warranty, 46K on the clock, the lady doing the contract work talked me into it, she was just doing her job. I'm glad she did though, three months later I had bent shift forks, trans. rebuilt, three months ago, bent rod, eng. rebuilt. Now all I'm waiting for is the rear diff to explode. All told, with labor and parts from a dealership it has cost the warranty company about 9 grand, don't forget to throw in the rental vehicle while your ride is in the shop for a total of about three weeks waiting for parts and such. One of the best investments for the Z I bought.

Well, buying used, even an '02 w/30K is the car really stock? Think the warranty company/writer knows? It would be a shame if they voided it for aftermarket parts. You're just buying piece of mind, and at the same time hoping nothing breaks...and if it does your're hopefully covered.

I hate ext warrenties but I had a bad exp with one. The dealership talked me into it. I was driving home from school and the tranny broke the bottem shaft. The dealership said it was b/c it had no oil in it. I asked them where did it go, they said it must of been a bad seal and that wasn't covered. I then called the company that the warrenty was from and they said the tranny wasn't covered b/c it wasn't part of the drivetrain. It took me almost a year in going to court missed about 5 days of work plus I ended up getting a lawyer. By the time it was over they paid for the tranny, give me the money back for the warrenty, and paid for all court fees including the lawyer fees. To much of a pita if you ask me.
For the record this was NOT a factory ext. warrenty it was the one the ford dealership recomended for my stang.

Guys, remember one thing..... These warranty companies are in the business to make money, not lose money. So for every one of you that has gotten 2, 3, 4 or more times your money back in work that it's paid for, just think of all the people that have gotten nothing/next to nothing out of the extended warranties. If everyone was getting more than what they paid for, all the warranty companies would be out of business.

I am an example of someone who has never gotten as much back as what I've spent. I bought an extended warranty for my Bonneville because I got the car used, and like others I figured it was a good idea. Car only had 17K miles on it, but it was too old to be covered by the factory warranty. The extended warranty lasted for 4 years, it cost me right about $1500. In 4 years time, the car only needed about $800 worth of work that was covered by the warranty, so I lost $700 + interest. And that's not the first time I've lost cash on one of these.

Guess you gotta do whatever feels right, but just remember that for the majority of people, you will not recover the full amount you paid for the warranty...that's how they make money.

its a gamble to buy any warranty and the odds are against you big time. the extended warranties on electronics are even worse.

I bought a warranty when I bought mine with 92k. Three days later on I-75-85 in Atlanta the 3/4 clutches gave out. That was an interesting trip back home.....
But, the warranty basically paid for itself then, and if anything else goes wrong, I will have come out ahead.

Higher mileage I say go for it. It was said these cars were made to be beat on, and are very durable but it's mechanical things do break. Anyways, I got one with mine. 36k ans put 21k on it since. I've been down the track, raced on the street, bunch of things. I've beat on it, but also baby it. Routine oil changes, checking oil levels. Stay on top of it. I have never had a problem. Now if I could do it again. I would have taken the 1500 I paid for that extended warranty and just ripped the trans and got it built up. The most common thing to go is the transmissions. 300 hp from the factory is a lot on a transmission. Build the tranny and you attack the major weak spot in the A4's

I hated the warranty also. I brought my car in when it was stock with just exhaust on for them to check for a clunking in my rear. They said it was an exhaust hangar on the passenger side. Anyways, it's my ring and pinion going. Or a shock that's going. It's not an exhaust hangar. ALSO They said they wanted to void my warranty for the exhaust. I told them to go shove it where the sun don't shine and took my keys. If you ask me they are out to make money off you. For every 1 who benefited, there are 4-5 more who didn't get crap

you can always cancel it and get most or part of your money back if you decide you dont want it later on.

i have an 02, within a month of buying the extened warranty, i had already accumulated more than the price of the warranty in repairs, so it was a good investment
