Default Who has a 3” catted Y w/ good ground clearance?

I am still trying to get a handle on the tradeoff between a better flowing exhaust and ground clearance. Do you have a catted 3” Y-pipe that provides good ground clearance? If so, who made it? If it is custom, what cats did you go with? What is your clearance, and is your car lowered? I am leaning towards QTP headers, but please feel free to reply even if you are using another brand of headers. Thanks for the feedback.

My SLP 3" Y-Pipe doesn't give me any troubles. I've never had any trouble with it hitting the floor either. My car isn't lowered, which makes a big difference. I'm also running SLP LT's & Speed Inc. Off Road pipes. It's all welded up, so it's not going anywhere

If you're at stock ride height you'll be ok. Bullet cats like the random technology 7000's tuck about the best. slpss9723 modified his QTP Y to fit and it's one of the cleanest installs I've ever seen on an f-bod. Sounds mean as **** too! https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/358241-qtp-lt-s-catted-y-pipe-question.html

jet hot catted y-pipe...comes in a lot of pieces so you can really get it to tuck up well. The cats are inside the pipe so it tucks like an ORY in that aspect

I thank everyone for their replies. Special thanks to weestro for the link. That was very helpful. My LS1tech searches only yield year 2006 results, so I may have never found that one.

If I decide to go the route of a custom Y, do you think it necessary to use a specialty shop, or do you think I could get good work out of some franchise shop?

franchise shops usually don't like to do custom work and charge a hell of alot more than a specialty shop...or they sacrifice quality to get the job done

FYI my TSP Catted Y has no clearance or banging issues on my car (even over speedbumps and driveways with sharp inclines) - stock ride height

Wow, my SLP LT's (with cats) hang way low. The collectors are fully beneath the floor pan and frame. I don't hit my Y, and it never bangs, but I have to watch speed bumps and dips to keep from hitting the lowest header pipes before the collector. They're kind of battle scarred after 1 year, but the coating looks as good as the day I put 'em on.
...I wonder if the skid plate from my Jimmy will bolt on my TA

[EDIT] added pic of "clearanced" SLP LT's...

Thats exactly what I want to hear!!! What kind of cats are you running? If i get the new qtp's with the hvmc, can I have a y-pipe made up that will fit like yours? Also can I just use the kooks y-pipe with the qtp headers because i know kooks kind of flattens part of the y-pipe to help clearance. Itd also be really cool if we could see some pictures of that setup . Thanks.

I have the TSP catted Y and it hangs horribly low. Can dragging it across speedbumps (It will drag on any speedbump, I have to avoid them) hurt anything besides the y-pipe?

Custom here. 2.5" y into a 3.5" i-pipe and 3.5" muffler. 2.5" y because I am lowered 1.5 inches. I don't scrape anything except speed bumps, have to take them at an angle or just avoid them (haven't driven over one since 2006).

Can dragging the Y across speedbumps/hills hurt anything other than the y-pipe? Like anything more expensive?

Indeed it does. I rarely have issues with my ARH catted y and I'm lowered about 1.75" all the way around.

I realize this is a 3+ year old thread, but to answer the O.P.'s question...

I have a Jet Hot Modular Y-pipe that has very small Bullet Style Cats. Or I can remove the cats and run "Test Pipes" in their place to make it an ORY.

It has about the best ground clearance of any Catted Y-pipe I've seen. This is due to the fact that the cats are so small and are simply placed inside a flare on either side after each collector and then a 3" wide Band Clamp is used to seal the connection around them.

The only down side to this Y is that its not Stainless Steel and it doesn't have the best merge. But other than that, I'm very satisfied with mine.

I'm not sure if they are still available through Jet Hot. I purchased mine from the WS6Store in January of 09. I believe I received one of the last ones then.

The WS6Store did have an identical one for sale, not under the Jet Hot name, for the longest time, but I can no longer find it on their website. So they may be entirely extinct.

Quick Reply: Who has a 3” catted Y w/ good ground clearance?
