Default Black SS - Grille Delete

Hi, I am thinking of talking off my stock grill. Can someone post a pic of their Black SS with the stock grille off.

Also, should i remove the styrofom that becomes visible?

Thanks

All you have to do is yank it off. I takes 10 seconds.

Something just doesn't seem right about yanking that off.. I would definitely break something. I know karma would come back and kick me for doing that to such a lovely vehicle :/

Let me be the first to say, DON'T YANK IT OFF. I took mine off the right way. There are approximately 10 to 12 bolts that hold on the entire front bumper. I removed mine in about 45 minutes. Not only did I remove the grill, but I had the opportunity to do some major cleaning on the front of the car. Just take it off and remove the grill from the back like you are supposed to. That way if you get a ticket from the police for not having a front license plate, you can at least stick that back on and bolt a license plate to it until you get the ticket dismissed. Never throw it away, you may never know when you'll need it.

Yes it can, but you take the chance of scratching up the paint if you just yank it. Not to mention, you may damage the grill and you may lose the clips that hold it on from the back. Do it however, just know what your options are.

YOu can remove it by just pulling, which is what I did. I spent about an hour trying to find all the front bumper bolts but couldn't seem to find a few at the end. I ended up just pulling on the sides of the grille, those attachments come off easier, then you can see the middle attachments that go through the bumper and I cut those off. But that also means that I can't put the grille back on because it barely has any retention with the side points only.

Isn't the black styrofoam the bumper support?

It looked like it was an important part of the body. Without the styrofoam, your bumper may begin to sag on top, not for sure though. I would vote against removing it. Just get some mesh and attach to the bumper in the holes left after removing the grill.

As far as the attachment holes, I contemplated having them filled and painted but the bodyshop said that most likely, they will eventually crack the paint and that AINT a good thing. I plan on replacing my grill with either the SS SLP Grill or the RK Sport carbon fiber (painted and cleared)

I would remove the license plate bracket only. It looks weird with those six holes in the front of your car. Inless you are going to fill them in.

thanks 4 all the responses everyone.

I was going to just remove the license plate cover at first, but it is rivited? on. I couold not get if off. After seeing some LS1's with the grille completly removed i thought it locked better than the stock grille and not as cheap....

WOW looking good, might I ask how you sunk that mesh into holes. How did you attach it?

well, i slowly cut down the mesh untill it was close to the size of the opennings(left it a little bigger so i could slide it behind and stay in)

the key is leaving the styro foam in so that you can position the mesh wedged in bewtween the plastic body bumber and the styrfoam. there is just enough space to slide the mesh into it.

i put some masking tape around the opennings so that when i slid the mesh in i did not scratch the paint. i had to bow or bend the mesh a little to get it to slide in (since the mesh is a little bit bigger than the hole so that you can get it to stay in there.)

hope that helps...
