Converter Install....?
We're putting a Vigilante converter in my brother's Z28. Turns out that the stock, allan wrench type head, bolts won't go all the way into the new converter. So we're in the process of finding the bolts... meanwhile we went ahead and bolted the tranny back up because we can still get to the converter bolts through the starter hole. What I want to know is shouldn't we be able to rotate the crankshaft? We were able to move it before hand but after we bolted up the tranny it doesn't seem like it wants to move anymore. Does that make any sense since the converter's not even bolted up yet? Does it sound like something's been installed wrong?

hey guys, I'm working w/ him on the install. The converter will not seat properly all the way onto the shaft. We turned it while pushing down at the same time, and it seated a little(1/2---3/4 inch) but we were told that it needs to seat alot further down than that to be considered mounted properly. We are at ends meet w/ this damn converter, it is holding us up from making real progress. It is a vigilanti stall converter and he bought it used from a guy that said it came off of an LS1 camaro, we compared the new vigi to the stock converter, and the holes are the same size and the teeth down inside look the same, as the have the same 3 little grooves in the same location on each other. Any tricks to getting this thing to seat down properly?? We even tried putting the car in different gears, although I've been told that nuetral was the gear to have it in when doing the install.

Thanks for the help guys. We finally got it all the way on but now it seems that the pump bushing is probably messed up because it won't spin easily. It takes a lot of effort to spin it and our tranny guys said that wasn't normal. We'll take care of it though. Thanks again!

Yeah we tightened it to the block and the converter still was really hard to turn. I think we probably did mess up the bushing or seal on the pump. We're taking it to a guy who will check it all out for us. We'll probably get the front seal replaced also. Thanks.
