Default Weird Tranny Problem

I got both, my tranny and tci ssf 3500 (raised to 3800) rebuilt a week or so ago. On two occasions, it wouldn't shift out of 1st at WOT and it banged the rev limiter. It still wouldn't shift under normal driving. BUT, when I turned my car off for a few minutes, it drove fine, even under WOT. It's not throwing any codes and it hasn't been tune for the new higher stall. What is the problem? Could this be a tuning issue? Any help is appreciated.

you need p0757 code shut off and possiably p0751.. Computer sees that the converter is slipping too much and locks you out of all gears but one. I was stuck in 3rd, reved the **** out of it just to go 5mph. I thought i toasted the trans... Just do a search for that code or do a search under my screen name...

oh one other indicator that its the code is when you shut the car off it will reset the code and the car will drive fine.. If you want to prove it to yourself just go somewhere where you can brake stall the car past 3,000 rpm's for 2-4 sec and then try to drive it normally, it will usually lock you out at that point..

So, the SES light doesn't have to be on to throw those codes, and/or will it show up on the AutoZone scanner?? I'm not getting the SES light. Thanx for the info man. I'm getting the ride tuned tomorrow.

sometimes the light will be set and other times it wont. I forget what term is for when the computer see's an issue but it has to happen so many times before the light is set on. It may or may not show up when you do a scan but it will show up if the light is on. Like i said i went through this problem and was almost about to cry, lol and said why the hell did i have to have a higher stall only to have my trans blow.. Its in the tuning...

Had the same issue.I found out that the ses light does not have to come on for this to happen! Put my scan tool on it and showed the dreaded p0751 code(solenoid stuck) Nothing wrong but the tune. Traver

Update: I just got the P0751 code turned off (no 757 code for 99s) along with some minor tweaks Friday. I did two consecutive burnouts and WOT passes with no problems thus far *fingers crossed*. I will continue to make burnout/WOT passes to make sure that the problem is solved. I'll post in this thread again if I have any problems in the future. Thanx again for the info BubaGumpShrimp.

Yep, stuck in third... same thing happened to me the other night when I was messing around with my cousins stang.. We raced and it was like converter slipped way up off the line....but it was in 3rd.

I turned the car off and back on and it was back to normal.... I later scanned the computer with A-tap and found the Po757 code was there.. I have a dyno tune comming up so hopfully he can get that out of there.

Good luck..

i have this problem once in a while...but mine sticks in second. changing the fluid and filter seemed to cut down on this. doesnt eliminate it completely but i cant remember the last time its happened.

advanced auto parts carries a filter thats like $10. that and 6 qts of atf makes an inexpensive maintenance item. i change mine about 3 times a season depending on how much im racing the car.

kewl!!! thanks.
ive been having a prob where my tc would unlock at cruz and not lock back up. found out if i turned the key off. then restart it would be fine for quite awhile. so i did a bunch of research. and i mean a bunch..
misfire codes..maybe causing it...UGH!
at wot i would also bounce off the limiter...in every gear 1,2,3..

then today, if found that my tires size thats in the tune isnt correct. this would cause the vss (vehicle speed sensor) to miscalculate the speed, thinking that somethings up in the trans and unlocks it.......DBL UGH!..
made a physical measurement of the rear tires and there 3/4in diff from whats in the pcm......TRPL UGH!!@!!!!

gonna try it out tomorrow...got a feeling my tuner is gonna owe me lunch...hahahaha

BTW: what kindo of times did ya end up with..??????

12.43 @ 109 n/a, 11.40 @ 118 100 shot nx. Took a chance and sprayed out the hole. Have your tuner delete the code(s), adjust your shift points, mph and rev limiter. Hope that helps.

Well, it did it again so deleting the code didn't solve the problem like I thought. I even turned the car off for a split second after doing my burnout and it still locked up.

I will check with my tuner to make sure the 751 code is turned off. Otherwise, I'm clueless again.

Another update: The P0751 was turned off like expected, but had my tuner scan my car and this code was logged in: P0502, vehicle speed sensor circuit low input. After researching, this code can also make the tranny have the same symptoms. I replaced the sensor and did a burnout/wot pass with no problems so far. I'll repost if I have anymore problems..

What my tuner informed me was that there is like 6 things to delete in order to keep these codes or others from popping up because of a high stall convertor.Traver

Hey i was just wondering i have 77000 miles on my 99 pontiac trans am but the trans was rebuilt a little bit about 5000 miles ago. i recently just put a vigalante 3600 lockup stall in with a trans cooler and at first my car wasnt shifting into third all time it would just bounce off the rev limiter. i had it tuned and everything and now it shifts fine ofr some reason but it makes a wierd noise now when i accelerate a little bit like its a bearing spinning or something. when i had the car tuned they said their wasnt enough trans fluid and the trans was trashed becaus eit wasnt shifting into second but now it is. speed inc tuned the car and thats what they told me i only drove it for about 20 miles and then aded the fluid that it was short, does anyone have any ideas what it could be? thanks.
I have patriot heads, a small comp cam, k&N intake system, ls6 intake manifold, and then the stall.
