it can be done... takes a little more effort but if you dont mind laying on your back and got a friend that can help you should be good.... did my step dads last week on 3 tons and wheel ramps

actually here is a pic of the car half way through

any lower than this and it might have been an issue getting the tranny out but we had no real problems

Well I changed my 91z from an auto to an m5 on jack stands. I even got to watch the 700r4 roll onto my friends head. I will never forget the noise he made.

I did it this way. I didn't have a trans jack so I just bench pressed it into place by my self.

I did it on jackstatnds with the help of a friend, was a little harder than having it on a lift. if you have access to a lift i would use it but it can be done on the stands.

no access to a lift so its jack stands it is.
I been to two transmissions shop's around my area with other vehicles and not happy with with service and there master idiots
example: Who would change a new clutch&flywheel in a 97 neon and not change the throwout bearing and in less than 3000miles charge me $250 to change it

navymitch12 that pic reminds me of the QTP header install

I've pulled my tranny 15 or so times on jackstands.

It's just tedious work in a small cramped space.

My buddy and I did it on my car yesterday... the fun part is bench-pressing everything back into place when you're done. Oh, and watch out for your *****. Its was a new experience having to remove the mounting bracket from my friends zipper.

Tranny is over 100lbs...

I put a jack under the tranny, roll it under the car, and jack it up. takes 2 people. One to jack and stabalize tailshaft of tranny, and the other to stabilize the front/sides and guide it in.

Thats pretty much how I did it. I took it out alone using 2 floor jacks and steadying it myself. Reinstalling it I had a buddy line up the front end to get the input shaft in place.

Had thought about a trans jack, but don't feel like spending $300 on something I'll (hopefully) use once every 3-4 years at most.
