Default slight wine from engine bay

i have a 2000 z28 i purchased a month or so ago, car has ran perfect untill this. There is a slight whine coming from the engine compartment. It raises as rpms raise. Its not too loud, it almost sounds like a very mild supercharger whine. I know on occasion my fuel pump has made a little bit of sound, but only for like a minute max. I dont think would have to do with that, could it? What do you think it would be?

my guess would be your AIR pump if it only happens every once in awhile...if it is constant maybe one of the bearings on a pulley.

You might want to look at the serpentine belt. The Gatorback belts make a bit of a whine...

Does it change with steering wheel movement? Could be a bad p/s pump or dying alternator...def could NOT be the air pump seeing as it changes with RPMS. Let us know what it is when ya find out

i was planning to take a better look at it today, although it wasnt doing it for awhile... then it did it again for a little bit, it sounded more like a whistling type whine. possibly a vaccum line leak? i will also check into some of your guy's suggestions next time it does it. thanks for the help

mine was the same way. take a ratchet or similiar long metal tool and just listen around at things on the serpentine system. try the belt tensioner, then the a/c compressor, etc. that'll usually help. anything extremely loud will prove to be the problem.
