Default Real T/A???

OK thinking about selling my car and someone came and looked at it. The RPO sticker has WS9 code in it and he said real T/A's have a WS4 code. The vin registers as a Firebird formula Trans Am. So can anyone with a NON WS6 Trans Am please check this sticker and see what yours says. Im kinda confused.

Thank you

Hello, I don't post here very often, but figured I'd help out. I have a 1999 Trans-Am, and this is what I got back from the decoder:

Country Canada
Manufacturer Pontiac Canada
Make Canada
Line F-Body
Model Formula, Trans Am
Body 2 Door Coupe (Hatchback)
Restraint System Manual Belts (Driver and Passenger Inflatable Airbags)
Check Digit 2
Year 1999
Assembly Plant St. Therese
Production Sequence 220402

Hope that helps Starz T/A 17.

edit: found this one too, tells you the engine type as well:
http://uscco.insider.org/de/vin.html

It also has a WS9 code on the sticker, no WS4 in sight.

Best of luck!

WS9 IS the code for a TA, it is the conversion code from a Formula to a Trans Am, never heard of a WS4 code.

Come to find out the WS4 code was used on 2nd gens to indicate it was a Trans Am, not sure if any other gens used it. Found out about this on a 1978 Trans Am.

The vin registers as a Firebird formula Trans Am. [/QUOTE]
mine is registered like that, and as you can see, I have a T/A Firehawk.
Formula,T/A, Firehawk are all option packages. I know my rpo is WU6.

Actually, WS9 is the code for a Formula. Y82 is the code for a Trans Am package. Look for Y82.

Let me explain. As the shell is going down the factory line, when a V8 was ordered, it automatically got the code WS9. This was the BASIC V8 package. Which meant it was a Formula. Cloth seats, different front end, low spoiler, etc... Now, if this V8 was to made into a Trans Am, the Y82 code was added. Then came all the Trans Am goodies. Front end, leather seats, high rise spoiler, etc.... This is why when you register or look at the title of your car, it says "Firebird Formula Trans Am". You're thinking, my car isn't even a Formula, right? It started out life as a Formula, Y82 made it the badass Trans Am you are driving today.

All V8s will have WS9 in the RPOs.
Formula will have just WS9.
Trans Am will have WS9 and Y82.
Ram Air Trans Am will have WS9, Y82 and of course, WS6.
Firehawk will have WS9, Y82 if it's a Firehawk Trans Am and before mentioned, WU6.

Go here --> http://lonestarthunder.com/m_rpo.php
and type in all your codes or just the two above.
