altho, you dont have to be too specific on a location in texas to answer most of those questions.
i'll just answer the questions based on the conditions here san antonio:
1. a decent/nice 2 bdrm apt will cost ya around 700 a month
2. what smog laws? lol
3. avg weather for this time of year is lows of low 60s and highs of mid 80s - thats pretty much todays forecast
good luck on the move!...if you do move that is

you can research the location's crime rate and income average and all of that other stuff on the internet.
that's one site i used to look around http://www.cityrating.com/crimestatistics.asp

I'm from South Texas aka Rio Grande Valley aka Little Mexico, and I like it. Yeah it's hot as hell almost everyday. When it gets below 70, you see people around here with three shirts and beanies.

Yeah it does get hot as hell and has already hit triple digits. As far as the smog laws, I don't think they're as strict as cities north of us. Also, what city in particular are you moving to?

hahah when i say south texas, i mean the very tip. somewhere around laredo or mcallen.
the new job im tryin to get is for customs and border patrol. its a interagency switch for me, so i have a ok shot at it.
700 is ****** ****! it cost about 1000+ for a nice 2 bed apartment here. some of the crappy ones are 850ish.
and i know about hot, it gets pretty hot here in the summer, 100s but i know itll be hotter there, and humid!

I have lived in Mcallen and I am currently living in Laredo, DO NOT go to either. Everything in both towns revolves around drugs in some way or another. And it really does feel like you no longer live in the U.S. anymore. However for an Fbody owner it is not bad because...
1.in the evenings and night it is always great to drive (when the sun is going or goes down)
2.It really does not rain all that much so your car stays cleaner longer.
3.The super smog from Mexico when sucked in to your CAI has an almost "nitrous" effect
4.No smog laws what so ever, and all you need is to pay Juanito $20 and he will over look your open headers and slap that sticker on your window
5. The WOMAN in both towns are second to none...they are F&#king amazing
Oh and both towns have some of the worst roads in the known universe. Forget about lowering your car. And if you make the mistake of putting a true dual system AND lowering your car...you better carry an industrial sized pooper scooper, cuz you will be picking up parts your car left behind...often.
Oh and when you go into any shopping center, HEB, Wal mart..etc... Park your car at the furthest point from the door possible. Because if you are in there only 10 mins and you are at half the parking lot length or closer to the doors...15 shopping carts will be all over your car when you come out. They are also 2 of the dirtiest and messiest cities I have ever seen. But if you still have any doubts about coming down here...just read point #5 ....way!
