Default Stock Exhaust? But it is too quiet!

Hi I have a stock 2002 Firehawk. The exhaust is actually lower than my buddies 2002 WS6 at idle, but when I get on it, mine is louder.

I would like to get a louder, more agressive exhaust system but I don't want to lose my performance that I get with my dual/dual SLP exhaust. I was just about to get the Flowmaster 80 series, but you guys say it sux. Any suggestions what I should get? I'm trying to avoid spending an arm and a leg, I was hoping to just swap out the muffler, and leave the rest of the pipes/cats in, since they are already pretty overbuilt.

And the same goes for my buddy with the WS-6... any suggestions for him?

The SLP loudmouth looks good, but I think the resonance will kill me after 10 minutes (not to mention loosen every bolt in the car)

Thanks in advance!!

there are like 1000's of posts on this so you could do a search.
I would go withthe GMMG hands down. Its pricy though. For the money, you cant beat the Loudmouth or the MagnaFlow. If you want a good sound for cheap $ get a magnaflow. If you can spend some, look into the Corsa, GMMG, or Borla. They are all nice.

Or you can just get an electric cut-out such as the McCord or the QTEC

Run it open with the flip of a switch

Find other people with different catbacks on their LS1s and pick which one you like the best. There are so many out there. GMMG, loudmouth, borla, corsa, BB, flowmaster, and the list goes on and on. You have to listen to it so find which one you can live with.

Just put a magnaflow muffler into your dual dual system it will sound and perform alot better, the dual dual sucks, I had one and when I put the 2otl on it changed the car

I put my Loudmouth on last weekend and am VERY impressed with it! I was afraid it would be too loud and pop too much, but it has the same tone/depth that my 40 series Flowmasters/off road h pipe on my 97 GT has. At idle it's quiet, but when you get on it hard it'll scream. The one downside is the amount of interior noise if youre taching, say, above 3K. My headers are going on as we speak, so we'll see what kind of difference that makes.

I vote for an electric cutout too. You've already got a nice 3" stainless setup with a great flowing muffler. Throw a cutout on there to make it nice and loud and gain further power.

Hack off the muffler after the IM pipe comes over the axle. Install 3" turn down pointing right behind passenger's rear tire. Gut cats.
I have a few pics of my turn down if you are interested.

If you like the Flowmaster sound but hate the restriction get the 10 series small 1 chambers. You will like it.

Replace the D/D muffler with a Dynomax #17227. You'll get better flow and better sound! This will work for both of you. No muffler flows better...

Dude, if you like the sound of the Flowmaster 80 series muffler(I do too), then just get it. You may lose 2-3rwhp against your dual/dual muffler, but c'mon. If you plan on keeping the rest of the car mostly stock, you'll never feel nor need the "very slight" difference in power anyways. And Flowmaster should do the trick(it is noticeably louder at idle, cruise, and WOT than any stock system).

You want the DynoMax race welded muffler, not the other DynoMax mufflers and not the cat-back.

Good luck

I have the SLP loudmouth on my WS.6 and it sounds awesome. I put other cars to shame when i rev it up.

electric cutout is the way to go it sounds for you..I went and spent 750 on the Borla Adjustable..very happy with it, looks great, sounds mean (open plate) I felt I had to go with a cat-back since the 98's had only 1 pipe exiting the driver's side stock. that was just plain sick, the borla dual tips fill out the exhaust openings well. I really wanted to go with the Loudmouth being that it was half the price but I had only seen and heard it online and I can't say I was impressed with either, sounded like somebody throwing around trash cans, but then again it was just a poor audio clip.
