Yes, ANOTHER oil poll!
Ok, so I'm tired of M1 and I've been reading up and shopping around & here's what I've come up with. Car Quest has Amsoil products on their shelf. The 5w30 and the Euro 5w40 both go for $7.29 a qt. Auto Zone has the GC 0w-30 for $5.19 a qt. Which would you run AND WHY? My car has heads/cam and is driven 4 days a week, about 30 miles each day in the city. It's FL, so it doesn't get too cold in the winter, and it gets decently warm in the summer. ALSO, what would you suggest for an OCI? I've read people will run the Amsoil up to 25k!!! I don't think I could do that, no matter what their oil analysis says! I would probably go about 14k TOPS with a 7k filter swap if I decide on Amsoil, and I have no idea on the GC. I always run K&N filters.
P.S.~ Please don't lecture me on the "M1 is good enough for a Viper/Vette" crap. I'M NOT GOING TO RUN M1 ANYMORE!!!

How is the Mobil 1 not holding up well??
If you think its breaking down too fast for your oil change intervals, pick up some Mobil 1 Extended Performance, good for 15,000 miles between oil changes

From what I've read on the Camaro boards and BITOG, GC is the best by used oil analysis as far as protecting engine from wear and holding it's specs.
M1 5w-40 also gets good test results, but the 30 weight seems to be on the thin side of the 30 range, and it's used oil results show more wear than GC or M1 5w-40.
I've been using M1 5w-40 as I can't find GC in my area, but I've heard Castrol came out with a "European Formula" oil that is supposed to be as good as GC, and hopefully will have wider availability so I can find it.
edit: oh yeah, as far as OCI, tests show 10k with a good synth is very reasonable.

Anyone else? And I'm NOT going to use M1 anymore! So stop suggesting it! If I could find the M1 5w-40 around here, I mught have considered it, but it's no where to be found.

GC here... used to eat up as much as a quart every 1000 with Mobil1. It was bad enough that within another 1500 my low oil light came on.
I've driven 3 times that with a few runs at the track with the GC and still read full on the dip stick as of 2 days ago...
On the dyno it was disgusting how the car drank oil thru the stock PCV system. When it was hammered from 2500rpm with Mobil 1 a large cloud of god knows came out the exhaust then settled down as it got to the mid rpm.

Everyone knows I love GC, but this is why. I always get incredibly low engine wear with this oil (as viewed in oil analysis reports) On my last oil change I went 9000 miles and engine wear looked better than some reports with 3k on them! And in that 9k my oil level did not go down either.

I use Amsoil Euro 5w-40 because:
oil pressure went up (at least 10psi across the board),
noise went down,
minimal burn-off/oil loss (haven't had to add any after 4 - 300mile trips and typical city driving),
1 year service cycle,
acceptable cost,
and the **** looks just as clean today (6 months later) as it did when I changed the oil back in December.

I don't really see how you could notice a difference from one oil to the other. I certantly haven't, I just know that Synthetic is the way to go, Mobile1, GC, Amsoil or even Wal-Mart tech. As long as it's sythetic. Maybe I have my music up to loud to hear the engine, but haven't heard any strange noises with Mobile1 10-30, that is all I use in my Z28 and my Avalanche.
