HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
I just got in my MAC headers, Offroad Y pipe and 2 cutouts...I was wondering how hard it is to install the headers, and the rest of the set????
I figure that the cutouts need to be welded , so a friends will do that, so mainly i am worried about the headers???
Thanks

not real hard to do just some patience and maybe a six pack and afriend and you'll do just fine.

Re: HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
it's not that bad. know what you are getting into though. do some prep work. there are points along the way that can get very slow and frustrating, i.e. pass side rear coil pack bolt.
driver's side: i took off the AIR tube and the header and went in from the top with a lot of effort. the oil filter was in the way and i ended denting the crap out of it. also some people uncouple the steering column.
pass side: take off AIR, EGR, coil pack, valve cover. went in from top very easily. some people have to grind down a little piece on the engine block, i luckily did not.
the night before, i would soak all the bolts in liquid wrench or equivalent, especially the manifold to y-pipe bolts.

Good Call...
pick up a few plugs and get the gm metal header gaskets and air tube gaskets as well.

Be careful undoing the steering column and be sure not to move it even a little after you do. Some people have had pretty bad steering problems after doing that. Just FYI

Re: HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
On mine we took the air off loosened the motpr mounts and took starter out to get the passenger side on. We went under seem to work out well..I have heard going through the top is good to. Had no problems on drivers side.. Good Luck

Re: HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
I installed a set of FLP's longtubes with the help of a friend in about 6 hours. No need to take the coil packs off,no need to touch them. The headers installed from the bottom of the car. Only thing we had to do is remove the oil filter. Other than that it was pretty easy.

Re: HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
I installe dynatech lt's last weekend. Working by myself i worked for about 8 hours, then finished up the install with a friend in another hour. I removed the oil filter and starter motor. A good air ratchet will save the day on the header bolts. It was a pain in the ***, and my hands where cut to shreds. A lift will make things much easier and safer. Unfortunately for me I didn't have one, so 4 jack stands and 3 ton floor jack had to do. I ended up having to put 4x4 block on the jack to get enough clearance to slide the headers in. All in all a tough job, but well worth doing instead of paying someone else 500 bucks

I had to take mine apart & we turned the wheel a bit to access the bolts that hold it on. The steering wheel is in the correct position after putting the steeiring yoke back on. The car is still on jackstands though & would like to know what to watch out for when I go test drive her later this week/weekend when I'm done with my install.
As for the header install, if you are going to do away with Air/EGR, make sure you get the block off plates, gaskets for them & some nuts, bolts & washers to fasten them with. If your car is older you should get some GM gaskets for the headers. You may want to change the plugs & possibly the wires if you got the extra $$ & if they have lots of miles on em.
Your biggest time saver would be to get a compressor & a 3/8" air ratchet. A variety of extensions from 1" to 10" or more & almost all if not all of the bolts were metric.

Re: HEADERS INSTALL ON LS1?????
Did my macs just like the shop would do it. Put the car on jackstands and do it from the bottom. Driver side take off air plugs and wires and slide in from bottom. Easy . Pass. take off egr air coil packs plugs and wires. Grind off tab on block and slide in the header. Easy no motor mounts or valve covers. This worked with the macs on my 99 ss. I'm not saying it will work with any other kind of header. Hope this helps. Mario
