Default Competition Ported 195cc AFR or Stage 3 Portpros Stock Lt1 Castings?

These are the 2 choices I have narrowed it down to for heads.

The car is a DD Lt1, but will see a LOT of track time.

396ci SRP Pistions, 11:5 Compression. Cam wont be any bigger than 23x/24x.

The AFRs flow great from the charts at .550 its 280/202.

I talked to harold at portpros and he said that the stage 3 flows 290 at .600

I just dont want to go to far on a street/strip car. I really would like to run low 11s on motor.

I have a lot more to say about either head but im too tired to type it all.

Any input is appreciated.

Tony.

For a 396 I would go with AIs 210cc trickflow heads. Flow 290+ at .550. They're a little bit more but don't have a core charge so after you sold the stock heads they would only come out to being a few hundred more.

If you get the AFR 195's get the competition series but I would go with 210's on that 396. AFR's take long to get (took like 4 months to make mine) Trickflows are good heads they use good parts on them. I even think just as good maybe even better than AFR.

The competition ported AFR's are not all they are cracked up to be. They do not flow what is advertised on the site. For one if you notice they flow with a 4.060 bore size instead of a 4.00 or 4.030 which makes a difference. The PortPro head will flow better than the AFR competition job from AFR. And yes the TrickFlow head is an awsome head. PortPros is a distributer of those as well as AFR.

My AFR 210cc Competition Ported flows 282cfm @ .600 (288cfm advertised).. We used a flowbecnh which is very conservative.

I wouldn't run the comp. ported 195's (and I have a set of AFR's on my car). You would get much better performance with no loss in driveability with the competition ported 210's for minimal increase in price. Good luck on the build.

I went with the portpros ported TFS casting because I figured if I'm going to drop some serious cash into some heads might as well go all the way. They should be here soon so I'll post the results. I was told to expect around 310cfm, and I think on a 396 you'll need some killer heads.

If you are talking to the guys at port pro's and you trust them listen to what they say. I will also say that you better start gutting that car and add juice to get it where you want to go at your altitude

Im not sure but i think i ran my 13.4 in 900 DA.

I dont want an all juice motor, 500hp on motor plus juice is nice. ETs mean more then dyno #s too.

I do under stand the differance of dyno numbers and track numbers My car has always been faster then cars with bigger dyno numbers.

My car is in NO way and all N2O engine. It is setup to take an occasional 300hp shot if I want but to take the most advantage of being N/A

300 huh, thats nothing.

If my block is strong before the build, IE thickness, im going to do 150 2 stage. But its more street than strip and a n20 motor isnt going to be as fun as a n/a motor.

But once again i have no god damn idea were this build is going.
