Default Installing Magnaflow

Anybody here install their catback exhaust themselves? Just wondering how difficult it would be since I have a magnaflow system on the way and would like to save a few bucks. What tools do I need if I should attempt this and how much time? Any info is appreciated.

I installed my Magnaflow in my driveway in about 3.5 hours by myself. That included a trip to the hardware store for new Sawzaw blades. The only semi-exotic tool you might need would be the Sawzaw or something to cut the stock system off. Other then that if you have a jack, ramps/jack stands, and a few sockets you’re good to go.

The job can be done by yourself but it helps to have a second person, for holding the muffler up while you bolt it up, or you could use blocks or something. Removing the stock system is fairly easy. You’ll have to make a cut in the stock system around the rear axle, so that you can get the stock system off. Just make sure you make the cut in the correct place, or else you'll have to make two cuts like my dumbass. There’s no way that I saw to remove the stock system in one whole piece.

I choose to bolt my Magnaflow versus welding, and I had no leaks. It takes sometime to adjust the tailpipes so they’re level while you tighten everything down. They like to move but even that isn't too bad. Overall it’s not that tough of a project in my opinion. If you run into any problems there’s always ls1tech.com Good luck!

i just had mine put on yesterday.well i didn't install mine on my own but i was watching, and it looked really simple. the only problem was one of the pipes was a little too small, so it had to be grinded down a little. other than that it fit perfect. you will be very happy with the sound also. that system is awesome. and i haven't used the word awesome since 1985.

Mine was a PITA to install compared to the Corsa. Took me six hours!

Then the damn thing nearly fell off a few days later.

Then it rattled when starting the car.

Then two of the bolts holding the tailpipes up fell out.

Then I spent a few more hours under there and fixed all the problems. Finally got the whole damn thing welded in.

Sounds real sweet though!

Given my time again I'd go with Corsa.

I spent 45 minutes installing original Flowmaster cat-back. I am a mechanic, though, and have all the air tools and tubing expanders to fix any minor tubing mismatches. Plus this is the 4th different cat-back I've done (5.0 Rustang, ZR-2 S-10, 4x4 Dodge, not to mention all the exhaust I do on equipment at work), and by far the easiest. The hardest part was lining up the tailpipes.
Of course, 2KFormula took his SLP dual dual to a local exhaust shop, they did it in 25 minutes (correct me if I'm wrong) and charged him less than $40. They did make him get on it when he left though, the bastards.

I installed Borla myself. They said it would take 3 hours and thats about right. Just basic tools. Then over the next few days some minor adjustments. Pipe over axle had small rattle, getting tips even. Then retignten all clamps. Thats about it.

It took me about 1.5 hours for me and a buddy to install my magnaflow, and get it pretty close to right. But of course I did it at my uncles place, and he has all the air guns, and a torch to cut the old exhaust

Thanks for the info guys. I borrowed a sawzall from work so I'm going to put it on today. Hopefully it won't turn out to be an all day project.

How much was this Magnaflow? Does it come with quad tips? How's the sound and performance gain?

I just ordered my Magnaflow sys. yesterday for my 2001 Ws6 T/A. I can't wait to try to install this myself and wait for the start up.

Black Death when you get it done, give me some pointers on what to do so i can do this easy as possible. Thanks.

i did mine in like a hour and 10 minutes i love the sound not too loud good tone. easy install only tip i could give is if u can't get the rear end up real high make sure u cut the pipe that goes over the axle kina high up so the muffler will fall down other wise u will have to cut it twice! other then that easy easy install i noticed slight gain in sotp.

Wow! I'm real happy with my choice of the magnaflow . I was a little afraid from some comments I had heard the magnaflow wouldn't be loud enough but I am not disappointed. It has a nice deep tone at idle but give it just a little throttle and it sings. Yeah, I ended up making 2 cuts too which took a bit more time but wasn't too much hassle. It would have been a faster install with air tools but all you really need is a set of deep sockets, rhino ramps and the sawall. It took me about 3 hours at a leisurely pace with a lunch break thrown in. Obi Wan BOB, no quad tips on the magnaflow just a set of polished 3.5" tips. I got mine from Husker Performance for 360.00.
