Question Free LS6 Cam worth the work?

I have a buddy with a low milage 02 Z06 that did a cam swap and he said I can have his stocker for free. Would it be worth the time and labor to put in my 99 SS? Would I see any gains?

Been there... done that... I saw a modest gain but nothing exciting. I didn't think it was worth the time myself.

if you want a cam to just be able to throw in with little ill effects, then yes. you will see a decent gain over stock, but you will want more later...also, u will need springs because the lift on the ls6 cam is more than the stock ls1 springs can handle.

yea, you will need to get his springs and retainers, and some 7.425 pushrods. do it man, you won't be dissapointed. I would have made 380/380 with it with a lil more tuning.

Since you have to do springs, push rods anyway, why not buy a used $200 cam in the sale section that will actually make the job worth it?

If I had that Zo6 cam for free I'd make a lamp out of it.

getting a free cam is getting a free cam. You will save some cash installing this one over buying something new. If its your first cam, then go with it, its a good start.

I've had two different cams in my car.

The Comp 220/224 114 was fun for about one month and then I felt it was kinda lame. (It's still bigger than the zo6 cam)

After that I went to the 236/236 /112. Just right. I wish I'd gotten the cam I knew I'd be happy with and saved all the extra work. (and cost)

Why do the work twice when you already know it won't make you happy in the long run?

I went 11,77 with it and liked it but need a little more after a few months. If you do it go with Comp Cams 918 springs and pull it to 6500RPMS. Good Luck

i like how you added the priceless, but so is experience we could go on and on on how he should go about it, but in the end, its up to you man. If you just want a cam and dont foresee you doing it again, then go for it. If not, pass it off and save up for the full package
