Newbe looking for LS6 power mod recommendations
I have a crate LS6 that I am going to put into a kit car. Not being a LSx guru, I am wondering what my options are for making more power without a power adder (there is no room for one). What are my options?
Cam? Head porting? Overbore? What flywheel numbers can I expect to achive? Approximate costs?
Can anyone recommend shops that offer packages (they do it in other words). My last engine I built, was a fun build, but I ain't going through that again. I learned my lesson, that's why I started with a crate motor this time.
I know this is a very generic question, and I did try combing though previous posts, but I really have not seen a "what can I do with this thing" kind of posts.
Thanks,
Jeff

personally, I found the following worked great, most noticeable aluminum flywheel w/alum pressure plate, slp underdrive pulley, long tube headers w/off road true dual exhaust, then mass air, ported throttlebody, ls6 intake. I would put 3.73 gears in it and have it tuned, it is a hell of a motor just needs to breath and get into its rpm range then it pulls like a banshee (much more than a stock ls1), I had to set the rpm limit at 6700 rpm, and hp was still climbing on the dyno. The powerband feels and motor sounds quit different then the ls1, You'll make more power under the curve then standard ls1's hc cars they just have more peak hp, I'll pull a na stage II hc 425rwhp ls1 from 4,000 rpm to 6,000 by about 2 cars, then from about 6,000 to 6,500 they pull back almost a car then they shift before me, a couple of gears later I'm far ahead. This has happened about 4 times, it's kind of weird and thats without modifying the stock ls6 heads, I've had 3 modified fbodies, if your staying na for the price I would get a 402 or 408 just gives you more options down the road, the stgII hc ls1's have plenty of top end just needs some juice, just my 2 cents

Heads/Cam plus normal breathing mods will get you well into the 400wrhp range on stock cubes. It really depends on what you want to do with it and how much money you want to put into it.

I am looking to get just over 500Hp at the crank, or thereabouts, the more the better of course.
Any suggestions, specific products? Wanting to keep the budget to doing this 4k or under. Doable?

I'm back to this again, and it's time for me to make a move.
Should I stroke the LS6 to 383 or 395 (Lunati)? I was wondering if there were specific product recommendations I should look into purchasing? Looking to spend 3-4k.
Or should I just go LS2? Problem is, I already have the LS6 and it's brand new.

I'd just put it in stock with a pulley and the custom headers so it fits. Then when you feel the need for more upgrade the cam. Anything over 400rwhp in a light shelby is pretty damn fast.

500 at the crank is almost too easy. There are stock cube LS1s almost making 500rwhp. I don't really see any reason for you to go bigger than 346. You have a light car and you dont need as much torque to get it moving. You could probably make 500 hp at the crank without touching the heads and a really streetable cam.
As an example I have a CTS-V with an LS6. I have an electric waterpump, Fast 90mm intake/90mm TB, catback, and dyno tuned. It dyno 372rwhp and 363rwtq. Assuming the widely accepted 18% drivetrain loss for a CTS-V that equals 453 flywheel hp. A small cam and headers would easily put me over the 500 fwhp mark.
I recommend that you call Thunder Racing or similar vendor and tell then what you have and let them custom grind you a cam and get you everything you need to go with it. That way you have a cam only setup that is perfect for you. And by keeping it cam only there is very little labor involved and its relatively cheap.

Thanks Jon.
I've been doing a little more research since my original post. I think I am going to go with TEA's Stage 1.5 on my existing LS6 heads. Not sure which cam yet, I'm going to give them a call and ask for recommendations.
