Default At what point should u have an LT4 KM

At what point does an LT4 KM become a good idea? Right off the bat or is there a mod in particular that makes it necessary?

When you get headers, the LT4 Hotcam kit is superb.
With mids or LT's, you can easily expect 35-40 hp from the HOTcam kit and headers/Ypipe.

That and a stall, and you got yourself a ****** competitor.

Who says this with such authority? I tell you... his name is Cap,...... Captain Morgan

I think LS1Silverado05 is talking about the LT4 Knock module. If so I think it would be a good idea after you install mods such as: long tube headers, Roller Rockers and a loud exhaust. Or you can do it for the hell of it cause it's a cheap mod.

Any real risk to running an LT4KM in an LT1 setup? Meaning will it ignore potentially harmfull signals?

I asked this on LS1LT1.com, because I know a couple of the guys there.
You can't just change the Rockers and Cam, its will cause serious valvetrain failure.

You need the appropriate springs, lifters and rockers to go with the cam.
Thats why it comes in a kit for $530.

You can get it online (gmpartsdirect.com) for like 30 bucks. Or program your computer to reduce knock sensitivity.

It's a good mod after LT headers. I noticed a SOTP difference, and also observed my knock count via brick scanner. It went to 0 after the LT4 KM install.

I think many re-use the stock lifters with no issues. You are dead on about the springs though.

The LT4 Knock Module is just a better quality noise filter. If you add roller rockers or any type of mod that may increase noise it is recommended to either run the LT4 module or adjust the tune to prevent timing retard. I have not heard of anyone having any type of damage caused because they installed a LT4 knock module the worst I have heard was there was no increased performance and that would be because they weren't having any knock retard in the first place.

Why the hell would roller rockers add noise? I would think it would be less?? Are you saying if the ratio is increased that the valves are snapping harder and thats why?

One of the differences between the LT1 and The LT4 was the addition of roller rockers. As I stated before the LT4 Module is just a noise filter nothing more. If you are running mods that increase noise than you will want to run a LT4 Module or a tune to account for the additional noise unless you want to run your timing retarded.

Waste of money I think. Just get it done through the tune.

short of hooking up a scanner is there a way to find out if you have false knock? Also if you have had the pcm reprogrammed because of the Hot cam kit, would they have "desensitized" it to not detect it automatically?

with the addition of rollers comes the addition of noise, whether or not you insrease the ratio. the bearings and roller tips cause it. it's easily noticable to knock sensor, believe it or not.
