Default Anybody running a "small cam" in a stroker moter?

Just curious if anybody was running a "small cam" (under 234/234 duration) in a 382,383,402,408? N/A of course.

If so, what numbers, dyno charts, track times to you have? Thanks.

lol! I'm running a small cam in my 383. It's a little smaller than the ones you listed. I have a 224, .563, on 112 in mine. I kinda ran out of money when I got the engine together.

I've been to the track twice with minimal tuning. It ran .2 faster (1/8th mile) than the 346 setup. I think it has more in it but I have a TSP Giant cam sitting at the house and it will be replaced very soon.

It's been great as a daily driver but I know I'm leaving a lot of power out there. Can't wait to get it swapped.

Awesome, can you give some more info on the power it makes down low, mid-range and top-end? Where are you shifting at? I was debating on a 224/228-112 or a 230/232-112 in my 382 I'm gonna be putting in my truck.

he has a gigantic stall... he wouldnt know if he had any low end torque... LOL.

just to clarify what he said, that .2 better was better then his BEST times with the old motor, and his 60s were much worse.. i think theres another couple tenths in the car, with the engine as-is... but hes just jumping to the bigger cam anyway..

Haha...like Mrdude said....I have a stall so I don't see any low end. It flashes to 5100 on launch and doesn't drop down below 5800 between shifts.

I definitely feel more power than the 346 and it pulls so damn smooth to the shift points. Right now I have it shifting around 6400. With my work schedule I haven't had much time to hit the strip and play with it. I just enjoy driving the car again.

I guess it depends on what you want. I think you would be happy with either cam if it is more of a street ride. Probably want to go bigger if it's gonna see much strip time. I'll have to give you an update when I do the cam swap. Street manners are great now. Not sure how it will be with the Giant.

I'm running a 234/236 .602/.602 113+3 in a 383 with great results. Provides excellent drivability, outstanding low end torque and very good power across the entire powerband - very high and flat torque curve, which exceeds my horsewpower numbers. Great road racing (HPDE/TT) cam!

Do you have any numbers/graphs? What heads are you running? THanks for the info guys!

This has been a 2 1/2 year project and I don't want to be disappointed because of having not enough low-end for towing or not enough top-end for racing.

Jason 99T/A made 505rwhp 478 rwtq with a Thunder Racing 235/248 .653/.618 112lsa (110* intake centerline) cam. Check out the thread. You'll be impressed with the torque!

PatrickG, you seem to have a bunch of knowledge about cams, valve events, etc.. What would be a good cam that provides just as much torque as a stock cubed LS1 below 1600 rpms out of these in a 383? I do plan on getting a 2600 stall, but that will be later next year.

XER Lobes
-224/228-112/110
-228/230-112/110
-230-232-112/110

Thanks!

Now that's a big *** split.. 235 intake, 248 exhaust... that's got to be one of the largest splits I've seen. Makes sense with the ls7 head with teh intake/exhaust ratio they have, but I didn't think that the ratio was that far apart on the standard lsx style heads.

I'm running a Hotcam with 1.8 rockers in my 383. Made 400 hp/405 tq with a flat curve. It pulls hard and sounds pretty good, I would reccomend to go bigger though, that's what I'm about to do.

I forgot to tell more about the set-up.

-Eagle 4.000" Crank
-Mahle -6cc pistons (3.903")
-Scat H-Beams (6.125")
-Patriot Performance Stage II 5.3 Heads
-LS6 Intake

It's more of a "budget" build-up for my truck until I get a T/A....one day
