Default Best Cam

Looking into getting cam but wanna know some inputs on what size and best results. I have a 2000 ws6 LT's ory SLP lm built 4l60e with vig 3600 ported tb and mass air slp lid and NX wet kit 150 shot and tuned by rpm. I wanted 2 see what a good cam was for this setup and what do i need 2 buy besides a cam.

228/232 .588/.592 110LSA +1 ground with COMP XE-R lobes is an incredibly well rounded cam, giving tremendous mid-range punch, a strong bump in dynamic compression and solid top-end power. The key to the cam is having the proper amount of overlap (while centering it over TDC) and using an intake valve closing point that works in harmony with the LS6 or FAST intake manifold.

Patrick, could you answer a few questions please?

What RPM would that cam peak out at?
What is the DCR with stock heads and a cam like that?
What would be a good shift point for that cam (stock rod bolts) with a 3500-3600 rpm stall and 3.23's?
Would you recommend the Comp 918 springs for a cam like that?

Thanks! Greg

Engine would peak between 6200-6300rpm.
DCR with stock cam is 7.0:1, with this cam it's 7.9:1.
Shift point would be 6400-6500rpm.
918s are not recommended. Dual springs are.

The Peak Power RPM looks good and the shift point looks safe with stock rod bolts but I don't have a good feel about additional DCR yet (trying to read all of your posts to get a better feel for it).

How noticable would a .9:1 bump in DCR feel? Can you put it into perspective some how? For example a bump of 20+hp you can feel in your seat, how much seat feel would there be with a +.9:1 DCR boost? Or use any other example you can to help me put it into perspective if you can.

Also (if you don't mind) what would the DCR be for a G5X3 112 or a F14 112 on a stock LS1 compression/head motor be?

Thanks for your time in helping me get a feel of what to expect with a cam change.

Don't let the 7.9:1 DCR scare you. You can run 8.5:1 DCR on 91 octane. A 9 tenths increase in DCR will give you a big push of torque that you can feel SOTP. It will feel like 20 hp because it's like 20 lb ft of torque. The DCR of the G5 and F14 cams will be a little lower on stock heads because they have bigger duration and wider LSA. Don't get me wrong though...both of those are excellent cams too and would work well with stock heads.

how easy would that 228/232 110+1 cam be to tune for an a4? it seems most people recommend cams with a lsa 114. that cam seems nice but i am worried about tuning issues.

First off ws6102488 sorry for hijacking your post!! I just wanted to steal a little bit of Patrick G's attention.

Patrick, thanks for taking the time to help me better understand the DCR #'s. Up here in Michigan 93-94 octane is plentiful so no 91 for me. Unless I go back on the Power Tour and travel through some of those 91 octane only states.

That's why my cam gives DCR of 8.73:1. I live in the land of 93 octane. Believe it or not, but my cranking compression is 250psi.
