Default Crank pulley removal. Danger?

Hey, I think I better take the car off jack-stands when I remove the crank bolt. The front is up and the back is on the ground, and I'm afraid I'll actually motivate the rear tires by turning the crank, it could knock it off the jack-stands, crushing old Shev.

Too bad, I would've liked to get under there and use leg power to turn the breaker bar lol. I think I'm gonna need a hunka-pipe.

Happy 4th!

lol@ the Darwin award.

With my luck I'd end up trapped between the AC condenser and the motor....and suffer a slow death by starvation.

I didn't use a breaker bar or leg power. I used a floor jack.

Old Shev got it off with an 18" breaker. It wasn't all that bad, but then again I am a strong ****

I did'nt lower it, I stuck it in 4th and chalked the crap out of it, both in front and behind the rear tires. Don't try this at home!

One thing though. I am not comfortable using the old crank bolt partially treaded into the crank, in the process of pulling the balancer. There's too much slop! And I can't find any threaded rod or a longer bolt at Loews or Home Depot

I'll redirect my efforts to the heads for now.

Guage, nice idea with the jack.

Later, fellas.

I just did my h/c swap last week and couldn't find a longer bolt anywhere. I made due with the old bolt. It sucked and got a little hairy when the pulley came off and went back on, but it got the job done. Good luck.

i forgot to put the emergency brake one time(car was in gear) and as i was torquing down the crank bolt, as I cranked on the pulley bolt, the back tires moved real quick on the jackstands. i almost left a log in my draws

The flywheel holding tool is well worth the expense, both for safety and to ensure that the crank bolt is properly tightened.

when putting it back on, use grease and heat the pulley up a little in the oven.

The easiest way is put the pulley in some very hot water. The heat will expand the pulley enough to start it easy. (just remember to hold it with some rags)
