Default As RPMs Rise...Oil Pressure Falls

I know the rule is 10 psi per one thousand rpms and all but I'm still worried. I've got an FFHP 408 with all the bells and whistles. When I go full throttle, in the upper rpms around 5-6k, the oil pressure starts dropping considerably. It will drop from about 80 and slowly fall to around 40-50. I haven't been hammering it since I saw it for fear of some type of failure. Any insight or suggestions to where the problem lies would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to add that this motor has been in the car for around 6-7 months and has over 3000 miles on it. I haven't seen this problem before. I use Mobil One 5w-30 and have checked everything such as oil level and catch can just to make sure it's not something stupid. Cold idle I'm getting 45 and warm idle I'm getting around 35-40 which is fine. With the camming coming to a stop, the lowest I see is about 25-30 when the rpms are dipping in the 500's - 800's.

Thanks,

D

it could possibly be the oil pressure sender. My oil pressure dropped off dramaticly a few months ago...so when i swaped my intake, i put a new borg warner sender in as well. the gauge is reading around 60 at a cold start and 40 at operating temp.

thats what i was about to say, change the oil cause in our nova, we have a stock pressure, high volume pump. 7k through the traps with 55-60 psi. When the oil is getting old it starts to drop, and thats when we change our oil.

old motor had 650+ passes and still ran fine, this motor already has 350+ with no problems at all....

what kind of number you making anyways?

532 rwhp and 486 rwtq with no spray and a conservative tune.

About to install the hose and pill it up to about a 200-250 shot.

actually, gen 1 sbc motors call for 10 psi per 1k rpm. gen 3 engines have been reduced to 7 psi per 1k rpm, due to the tighter bearing clearances - just fyi.

Is this per GM?
