Default Steel Shaker Scoop?

I saw a shaker scoop on eBay listed as Trans Am / GTO. The seller says it is metal, not fiberglass. It is functional as in has a door and servo. He cant tell us what year it is from. Question is, was there a steel shaker scoop on a Trans Am? Ever? I am thinking it must be from a GTO, only because I don't think there was a TA steel one.

Input?

I'm not aware of any steel shakers on T/A's. Hopefully someone a little more knowledgeable on this topic will chime in. I searched and searched for a metal one, but all the 2nd gen shakers I found weren't metal.

Is this the auction?

I'm going to move this to the Pontiac Firebird Forum. There are several 2nd gen owners that frequent it.

Thanks, I wasn't sure in which forum to place it. The 2nd gen guys have to know the answer to this one though.

Call me a 2nd gen guy....That looks like a 74 GTO shaker. For TAs, they had a functional shaker up to 72, and they were bolt on. From 73 till 76, they were that style of shaker, but clamp on and non functional. The silver band you see around the bottom of the shaker is the clamp. The bolt on had 2 wingnuts attached to the air cleaner housing. 74 was the only year for a shaker in GTOs, and it was functional. It was not metal, however. Looking at the last pic, you see the underside of the shaker. If it was metal, it should be as rusted as the rest of the hardware.

I have sent a note asking the seller to put a magnet to the painted area to verify it is metal. I'll update the thread with the answer.

Default The Answer

The seller just responded (pretty quick!)

Here is the answer:
"I looked at it wrong .It has a metal base with a fiber glass top. It has the number 491982."

He updated the listing. Thanks guys, I thought that one was bizarre.

Cool. At least he was honest enough to make the listing right!

Mystery solved! Mission accomplished! : )

That's not a bad price for what it is. I don't think anyone else realizes what it is. The only scoop made for the goat, and the final year of the goat. If it works, $50 is a steal. Who knows if they're reproing these but if they are, they're probably $100 each.
