Default What should my first mod be?

I'm looking to spend under $100 so I'm thinking to get either a Transgo SK or a SLP lid (with a K&N filter). This is for the TA in my sig.

I see. I have been leaning towards getting a Transgo SK since I had my V6 Bird (over a year ago). Suppose I'll pick one of them up and get the lid/filter as my next mod.

Dude,......Id say buy a lid but they're typically a tad over a $100 now.

If anything,.....spend that cash on some materials and port and polish your TB, debaffel your hood(cold air) and fashion yourself a "funnel/channel to your airbox, cut the center section in your air-box, cut the EGR(yours is a 98 so yours is behind the TB blocking incoming air) replace the PCV valve and if you really have *****,....descreen the MAF.

Well, I've been checking the FS forum and saw a few lids go for $55. The SK seems to go for about 70-80.

from the stick up top:

Lid:
A lid replaces your stock lid, which was designed with comfort, not power, in mind. Simply put, an aftermarket lid does not have the restrictive air silencing fins and baffle found on the stocker. It allows more air in, and is a "must do first or second" mod. A lid is a lid, don't ask which one is best.

Well, it seems the SLP lids are the most common, and seem to be liked by everyone. Also, these lids work on stock TA hoods right? And '98 lids differ from 00-02 lids? Thanks for the information, guys.

SLP is ok. I like Whisper better becasue they have a rubber seal between the MAF and the lid.

K&N is not worth anything, IMO. I use paper filters (FRAM or AC Delco).

The lid will fit with any stock hood.

The '98-'99 lids don't require a breather filter for the AIR pump because it doesn't connect to the lid like the '00+ cars do.

Oh and,

GET THE LID FIRST, NO QUESTION

My vote is for a lid.

I have had a Granatelli (sold it cause the fit and finish SUCKED) and an SLP, which I LOVE (fit and finish is better than any other lid I have seen. Then my buddy has a Whisper lid and that thing fits like total ***! He was so pissed as we tried to get it to fit. The finish is also very rough and the color isn't a good match with the rest of the under hood components.

Horsepower in a bottle is for sissies. j/k....kinda

+1 on the lid. I have a whisper and like it. Do the FRA (free ram air) when you do the lid. It is worth a little, atleast at high speeds.
