Default Question for the mustang guys

Why did you do an LS1 instead of a 4.6 or 5.4 mod motor?

I have about $4k TOTAL in my long block with intake and carb and will be pushing approx 520-540fwhp n/a + all aluminum, easy to modify, etc... It would take alot more money and your would have a heavier engine and make less power.. Just my .02..

The reason I went this way is I have always loved the notch body style and ls1 motors.. Why not have the best of both worlds..

Smaller dimensionally, lighter, fun and easy to modify with great return for the modification dollar...

I have always love the notchbacks since high school and the weight/power combo is unbeatable for the money.

I have noticed almost all GM guys like notchbacks when it comes to Mustangs. I used to be very anti Ford and always liked the 87-93 GT's the best when I wasnt a "Mustang guy", go figure lol. Notches are trendy! The hatchback cars are pretty light too, usually only 40-60 pounds heavier than a notch with equal options.

I havent done a swap but I will say this, I wouldnt even consider a n/a 2v or 4v 4.6 swap and the 5.4's sit up WAY too high. The modular setups dont make alot of big power n/a, there are a few that do and even less that are street engines. The ones that make over 400 rwhp n/a have $$$$$$$$ in them. A blower or turbo on either works very well but thats $$$$ by the time you do a swap AND built it for boost. If I were gonna consider doing that, I would just as soon build a Dart Block 331/347 or 351+ cube setup with a turbo.

My thinking if I ever did this would be a cheap LS1/T56 pullout, all the boltons, spray it with a 150, car will make 500-510 rwhp, or while it's out, forged pistons, throw some ARP rod bolts in it or some decent rods if in the budget, spray a 200, add a cam and it's a 600+ rwhp car that wont split the block and handles better than stock with all the weight off the nose! Plus you need to figure spending $1000+ for a decent transmission for the Ford setup, the LS1 swap cost has a T56 figured in.

I would keep the Ford setup if looking to make alot more power and just get the Dart block, turbo kits for a fox body are CHEAP. There are two places that sell them for $3000 and one that sells them for $2800 and then the others like HP and Hellion at $4500-$5000.

LS1 Fox Body is about the cheapest way to get a reliable 600+ rwhp setup if you build it right and would be sub 3000 pounds!

just love the notch! always have, and an all aluminum platform that makes decent power in stock trim and responds so well with a good head/cam/intake pkg, what could be better to swap in one for the money. besides, here's a pic of my previous notch that had a 4.6 Cobra 4V crate motor in it. notice how little room was left in the engine bay to work with!

The benefits of the LSx platform over the Ford modular platform should be obvious. Less expensive, lighter, more compact, more powerful, and more efficient. Its a win on ALL fronts.

Well, my reasoning is:

1. Already have the car.
2. Always loved the notch-back fox mustangs.
3. Low-weight chasis (didn't know just how little they weighed until recently, it seems that 3,000lbs fully dressed is absolutely feasible)
4. LSx engines make great power with relatively little work (no overhead cam Sh*t to deal with) and it's all aluminum
5. ****-off Ford guys.

For that I'd go with a 4V motor. I'm sure you're not planning on breaking any track records with the continental, no need to put a fast motor in it LOL

I've been wanting to a do a 4V swap in an older Ford for a while now. I've had a '52 Customline Coupe for 10 years thats just been sitting. My goal when I bought it was to swap an entire Cobra drivetrain, seats, wheels, etc into it. Now thinking just the motor ;-)

why would you want a 4.6 that seems, well, relatively torqueless in a heavy boat such as a lincoln?

if anything, if I were to keep it all ford I would go with a 5.4L out of a lightning. my buddy has a lightning. with a lower pulley and a tune, nothing else, it runs high 12s at 106-108. it would be perfect for a lincoln.

The lightnings are about the same weight as the Continental so that may be an option. The lightning motors are too tall with the blower setup, but maybe a blower from a cobra or aftermarket that was lower profile would do the trick.

I wonder if you can do a 4V conversion on the 2V Lightning motor?

a blower addition would be easier than a valve addition. Blown 4V?
