steering wheel shaking
I have noticed that my steering wheel has started shaking when Im driving at speeds over 55 and in the highway. Could it be that the wheels need to be balanced. there are alot of pot holes where i live.

+1 on tire balance - this is usually free if you go to the place where you bought the tires. If not, expect $5 per tire typically. If you get the tires balanced and the vibration still happens, then you are looking at other factors like bent rims, broken belts in a tire, broken suspension parts, ect.

im having this problem to. i noticed a slight vibration at 80 mph or higher, but now i replaced 2 rear tires with 255 instead of 245 as that was all they had and it was closing time. so one rear tire went up front, and now the vibration is very bad at 45 mph, seeing this thread and asking another person, said rebalance the wheels, i did the fronts but its the same. i cant notice any damage to the rim or tire. so im not sure what else is wrong. my power steering is dying, but it should not shake the wheel like this i dont think, as it was not doing it till i moved the tire. will the 2 diff sizes cause this issue? or just make it more noticeable. they were used and the tire dude assured me it would be fine. but im wondering now.

Another thing is guys, sometimes you rim can be warped, and you wont be able to see that. I bought some brand new Z06 rims and before i had tires but on them, they tested all the rims on the balance machine, and one rim was actually warped.

i meant 2 bigger tires in the rear, and the smaller ones up front. i wasnt to keen on it, but it was all they had at the time, my other tires were not salvageable. ill look at the tires again and make sure i did not quote the wrong size. i know the 2 front are 245/50/16 . ill check the backs in a few minutes after dinner. (im on a **** poor budget if you cant tell) the rear are 255/50/16 is that really a problem? i see pizza cutters on cars and huge tires in the back that makes the car tilt, i did not forsee this being a major problem.
if the rim is damaged how the hell can you tell if its not obvious?, they balanced them, and did not say anything about a problem. maybe ill try another shop and see.
i would not say the steering is loose, but i have to oversteer to get the same results. its a huge turning radius.
this was even before i replaced the tires.
which bolt are you referring to to check? im not familiar with the unit as for as tightening it up.

ROB2000, there is no issue with that, as long as your ABS light does not come on. If the sensors realize that one axle is turning faster than the other, the car will disable the ABS. There is a percentage of size that they need to be within each other, but I don't remember exactly what it is. Somewhere around 96-97%. But I ran exactly what you are running, and had no problem at all.
So, I would say that you have a steering issue, from your description.

ill check the pressures again, i set them all the same when i swapped them out. im thinking part of its the rim, as it has a big balance weight and a small one, i know it dont always mean something. but since the problem became very pronounced at a lower speed. i think its that. i cant see nothing wrong with the tire. dunno if some suspension went bad. also will wheel bearings cause this? i want to fix the cooling issue and power steering, but right now this became the most important thing as shes all over the road and its a little worrying to say the least. luckily im close to work and school. but dont have the funds to switch things out without knowing if its the problem.
