Classic displacements
Am I the only one that would like to see GM bring black classic displacements for the new Camaro? I think they should offer 3 LSX displacement options like the first-gen days: A base 350, then step up to a 396, then have a big-dog 427(limited production). Anyone else think that this would be a cool idea?

It would be cool but probally wouldnt be pratical, when the LSX based engines came out it changed the "basic chevy V8" an LSX engine has pretty much nothing in common with a classic small or big block chevy engine. Their will probally be a V6 model because these cars either make it or break it based on their V6 conterparts ( why mustangs were more successful the F bodies b/c every chick and their mom has a V6 mustang) and then some kinda LSx engine.

I'll just be happy as hell to get the new Camaro with at least a 6.0L/400hp V8.

Im not big on "rat motors" and enormous sized motors.
Im a big fan of the classic 396 and 427 though. I think of the 454 as a truck motor though.
I think it would be cool to bring back the 396 but that was a big block motor and the LSx series are small blocks.
I think a nice LS2 would suit the camaro quite nice. And have the SS pkg. just be appearance. Its been like that since the 1st gens, I mean yeah the SS's had bigger motors but really all that SS's were was an appearance pkg. If you dont believe me research COPO camaros (Custom Order Production Office)

COPO = Central Office Production Order. GM knows that the classic displacement numbers help sell cars. 427 CI LS7 anyone? That's why LS1's are referred to as 5.7 liters even though they're just shy of 5.7. That's why LS based engines are called what they are. LS6 and LS7 are classic RPO's from the heyday of the musclecar.

What was the RPO for the old SD455 pontiac motors? Wasn't that LS2? Or was it the Ram Air IV or V motor that was supposed to get LS2?

I knew it was one of the those but second guessed myself.
Thanks for the correction
But yeah thats true about classic displacement regarding to selling cars.
I doubt they will bring back a 396 though.
