Was the car cold when you took the video? I've heard of piston slap issues. Could be lifter ticking, check your oil level. Also could be exhaust leak.

Sounds a little too loud/heavy to be lifter tick.

I've never personally heard piston slap, so can't help you there.

I had a similar tick recently, turned out to be a loose spark plug wire. Easy to check.

I changed the oil, hoping it would solve the problem. The car does it when its warm. I bought it last friday with 75000 miles. I already ordered plugs and wires.

what type of oil did you change it to?, did you drop the pan before you bought the car?....it sounds like a piston slap or a valve knock

I changed it to 10w-30, some cheap autozone brand stuff for now. I also added a lucas additive to see if it would help. 100% petroleum so it shouldnt hurt.

My car makes the same exact noise all of the time hot/cold it doesnt matter. i took it to the dealer when i still had my warenty and they opend the heads and they found nothing. Then they called one of the main chevy engeneers and he explaind to me that the sound im hearing is normal, he told me that some camaros/silverados have that noise and that its nothing to worry about and till this day i havent had any problems.

My car has a very similar noise. I've had the noise for about 2.5 months and it hasn't gone away. I haven't had time to pull the valve covers to investigate further, but I hope it's nothing serious.

I don't think its piston slap, I think it would of been louder, and once i reach high rpm's you can't hear it, you can only hear it around 3000 rpm and lower

This is identical to mine. It's present at all times, car can be hot from a 2 hour drive, it doesn't matter. Mine is also definitely not audible 2200+ or so. It's most noticeable around idle or 1-1100rpm.

check out the below posts. The first one is my car. It sounds about the same just not as loud. I have went to two different dealers and they both said it was a normal noise for the LS1. I have also listened to 1 Camaro and 2 Trans ams and all three made this same sound. The only difference between them is how loud it was. (by they way both trans ams were 2002's and less then 12,000 miles and were louder than the Camaro with something like 75,000). It seems to be normal or common and I'm not seeing any loss in performance so I'm not going to worry about mine.

Normal. Mine has 78K miles and sounds just like WS6pewter's vids. Runs just fine. No power loss at all.

Hate to bring this up agian but....but here we go. Can you guys that have this noise hear it when you are driving? When I'm driving through my subdivision putting along at around 1300-2000 rpms this noise is driving me crazy. I can hear it even with the windows up. People walking in the neighborhood probably think what a POS! I think it is getting louder but its hard to tell since I do not drive the car much.

my car is the fist link in post #16, there is a video of it.

Anyway I'm thinking about selling the car(thinking about buying a Vette) but how in the hell do I explain to a potential buy what the noise is. I could give them what 2 different dealers have told me " normal but we can't explain what it is". Like in my previous post I have heard a couple of other LS1's with the same noise just a lot quieter than mine. Thanks

mine does it too ... I'm pulling the air system and doing plugs/wires though in the next few weeks...

I've read and been told that it could be anything from injectors or coil packs to exhaust leaks, on up to sparkplugs loose, and beyond into valvetrain problems...

its just ******* annoying, and I know whatever mine is, its causing a loss of power so I'm assuming spark, and my mileage is ******* terrible right now as well.

Sounds like piston slap, mine has it too, mine reaches operating temp and it goes away. And the lucas oil additive causes the oil to foam thus getting air mixed with it. I wouldn't add that in if I were you on your next oil change.

Take a look at this link: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm
