Default extra lubrication vortech with boosted air ?

whats the use of the extra boost referenced oiling ?
as on some engines it it installed and some not

my thoughts where that the oilpressure is far higher than the boost so how is this gonna help ???

In Vortech's "Race Owner's Guide" in Section 6, they say "On applications such as endurance and/or road racing engines... or for high speed sustained supercharger operation the use of 2 supercharger oil drains are required to evacuate the engine oil from the supercharger. An alternate method would be to use one drain hose off the supercharger and a vent hose attached to one of the other drain fittings off the bottom of the supercharger."

Since my car is set up for road racing, I went with the alternate method, and use one of the other drains as an air vent to my catch can. This is supposed to stop any problem with the supercharger getting loaded up with too much oil, and makes it run a little cooler too.

okee thanks, that shines some light on the matter

so is it then for "sucking" the oil out or maily to pressurise the superchargercase so the oil gets "blown out" ?

It's to de-pressurize the blower gearbox by giving it a vent to the atmosphere. Also if the oil started foaming it would be an 'emergency exit' in addition to the drain. Probably keeps the gearbox a little cooler too.

On second thought, can you post a picture from a different angle to show that fitting?

What was that blower set up on?

Hey Jim,

well the foto is not mine, just one i found to show the oil / boost connection on such a supercharger.

so by just doing what you did, using one of the not used drains and making a vent it would cure any future problems with the charger getting full of oil.

i am building the engine for roadracing / prolonged high speed runs allso, not dragracing.

i could allso just drill a little hole on top of the charger and vent that, as i am a little afraid that on one of the bottum drains due to the high side forces of running slicks and roadracing oil will get spilled out and not just air ..

Are you guys talking about the same thing ??

Here is what CAPA say about it ( Maybe its the same on Vortech's own site )
http://www.capa.com.au/vortech_performance_air.htm

Does sound odd to me.

No, Stevie, I think you nailed it. I replied and then took a better look at the photo. I think he has the exact kit you posted. Good catch.

jeejee - you can download the Race Owner's Guide at www.vortechsuperchargers.com in their support section if you want to read some good road racing setup tips.
