Exclamation 325 HP after cam'd LS6 Sawp!?

Just got my tune done yestreday after putting a 04 CTS LS6 engine in my 98 trans am (A4). I put a 224/228 .534/.537 112 cam and a 3000 rpm stall with 3.90 gears.

It only dyno'd 325 HP @ 5700 and 310 TQ @ 5200?

My old LS1 stock did 300 HP and 325 TQ!!!

WTF?

Now it seems it idle funny and surge along with it die'n in reverse, when it does idle right it is about 1 grand.

Any input??

if those are unlocked converter numbers then they are probably right, locked you will dyno a decent amount higher, my unlocked numbers are 270/290 with the mods in sig lol...but in the 1/8th its still faster than most cars at 300-320rwhp...

I am not sure what it could be. I would imagine that if I was having problem with a cyclinder it would be obvious, but it runs smooth except after letting off the gas it surges (not the idle the engine). Still idles at 1k and when starts up idles at 13-15k. No obvious power loss... I have never driven a 400 HP car so I would not be able to tell you only camparing to my old LS1.

After doing some further research I found out that the dealership I had who installed it used the LS1 intake because the LS6 did not have egr, so they would not use it and used the LS1 valley cover. In not knowing this I have already sold the LS6 intake, but still haev the valley cover... should I replace this...?

Also they used the LS1 PVC system... which has a extra hose that plugs into nothing on the rear passenger side of the engine.. which is plugged??

I do not really think that this could be causing such a power loss along with the torque loss. Could a bad tune really cause that much?

If anybody has any idea, let me know. Here is the dyno sheet if you can not believe it like me!?

It sounds like your running the Comp XR277HR Grind. That is the same cam that I used last year, only with 1.85 ratio rockers. On motor it put out 417 rwhp at 6500 RPM. I my have a few more mods than you,but there is no way that your motor should be under 360 rwhp - 325 rwhp at "5700" RPM - something is screwy here. Find yourself a good speed shop and have them check that baby out. Did they degree in the cam when it was installed?

do you have headers to support the cam, if not u are severely restricting it with stock manifolds

No I do not have headers, but would it restrict it that much to make numbers like that?

Here is a list of the few performance mods I have...

98 Trans Am (LS6)
A4, 3.90 Gears
Comp Cams Xtreme RPM 224/228
TCI 4L60E Street Fighter 3000 Torque Converter
Accel 30lb Fuel Injectors
Comp Cams Hi-Tech One-Piece Chromemoly pushrods, 7.400"
Flowmaster Exhaust
SLP Cold-Air Package

numbers sound fine for an unlocked converter and a car with no headers or intake. Put some LT's on that and an LS6 intake and you will pikc up alot

Are the stock LS1 headers that restrictive for a LS6 to hold back that much HP/TQ?

Yes that is the same cam that I now have for sale. It is a grind that was designed for larger rocker ratios. The headers and intake would improve your overall rwhp by approximately 18. Your head casting are 243 correct? What is the # stamped on the cam that was removed from the motor. Let me know and I'll tell you if its a 550 lift Z06 cam or not.

Oh yeah, they are that restrictive! Get long tube headers and ORY, and for the love of God, get a cutout or cutoff that damn Junkmaster exhaust... the crossflow setup for our cars from them suck ***! You are better off with a stock muffler!

Yes the casting number is 243.

The numbers on the LS6 cam I pulled out is 5308/S12/4055.

Wow guess I need to get some LT's right away.

Would LT's solve the strange surge and idle problems?

yeah i bet u are choking that engine majorly. U have stock manifolds and a crapmaster catback. when u do your Lt's make sure to either ditch the flowmaster or get a cutout. Id do the cutout because it makes it so loud when u want it to be. once you get the LT's i bet you would notice a big difference in the sotp and dyno numbers. Cams need to breathe.
