don't flame me if this is a stupid question: i would like to get out of the hole quicker but won't 4.10's jus spin my tires? i have a stock 10 bolt with 315 nitto 555r's in the rear, i'll be saving up for a 12 bolt next year

thanx

It will feel like your car gained 80rwtq with a set of gears. makes the car much more enjoyabe to drive IMO.

I needed 4.10's. I put a spec stage 2 clutch in my car, and with the stock 3.42s, that thing would bog SO bad, it would not get out of its own way. After the 4.10's I was back to high 1.8X 60's with street tires.

I'm thinking about getting this done. Car is just a DD no track use. Stock 10 bolt, just don't want to have any breakage. Does 4.10's increase the chances of breaking?

Yeah 4.10 definately increase the chance of breaking the rear, a lot especially when compared to the auto's 2.73 and 3.23 ratios.

When you shove stickies on there you probably need to replace it with a 12-bolt, why because you just broke the rear-end.

Driving enjoyment not driveability. Way to much ice out here in Albuquerque, and I thought this place was supposed to be a freakin' desert. Traction control is definately a plus and would be essential if driving with 4.10s on the icy roads out here.

Depends on your launching. I have been running 4.10's for 42k miles now. I just pulled the rear to clean and paint with POR-15. I pulled the T/A cover and she's immaculate inside! That being said, I don't try +3000k clutch dumps. I also run Fuzion ZR1s, and they hold traction better than my old Kumho Ecsta 712s. A sticky tire with high rpm clutch dumps and getting a great hook is a sure fire way to move up that date for the bigger differential.

IMHO, hands down, 4.10s are THE choice for an M6 car.

Sniff unfortunately you can't get a bigger differential when you break the IRS on a Corvette...

4.10 are badass though.

Don't get them on a A4.... oh gosh no...

So you have no problems banging the gears? like shifting hard into second or third? there was a post awhile back of people breaking their gears while shifting.

Again, I have no issues whatsoever. I had issues getting from 2nd to 3rd in high rpm shifts, but that was clutch hydraulics issues removed by completing the "drill mod" to the clutch master cylinder. Smooth as silk now.

I do not "bang" gears, in that I am forcing anything. I ocassionally do maximum acceleration through four gears. I can spin 2nd and chirp third (if I want to), but this is not the best method for maximum acceleration IMHO. Frankly, if I was going to drag race that much, I would convert to an A4 tranny system wit ha nice stall. That is much more consistant an less shock to the entire drive line.

I am running Penzoil SAE80w90 (API-GL5 Level performance) gear oil for my Eaton posi unit with the GM limited slip friction additive (1052358) or equivalent.

Stock fluids!!! Oh wait, I am only running 3.42's.

Mine still haven't broken yet and I have definately violated the rear-end on my Z06... definately violated.

...most definately.

The photo is a bit big, but you can see what the gears look like after 48,000 miles. Motive 4.10s on a Eaton posi. Like I mentioned in a prior post, I do NOT do high rpm launches. I have had a little whine since day one, but I expected some from a taller gear.
