Default Anyone With A 4l80e In A Chevelle ?

Im Planning On Laying In My Ls2 - 4l80e Into My Chevelle Within The Next Week Or So . I Would Assume I Would Want The Engine/trans As Far Back ( And As Low ) As Practical For Better Weight Distribution . Iv'e Installed A S&p Oil Pan And Have New Mounts And Offset Plates , The Engine Sits In Pretty Nice So Far. Has Anyone Done This Install In A Chevelle ? I Figure Ill Have To Do Some Cutting And Possibly Replace Or Modify The Dipstick Tube.and Relocate The Trans Crossmember .anyone With Pics Would Be Helpfull . Thanks John

I can say for certain you would have to move the crossmember back but you might be able to get away with the stock mounting pad. I had a 700r4 in mine before and it fit in the tunnel just fine but the 4l80e is a bit bigger but I could see it fitting with a little "massaging" with a big ol' hammer. I can't recall somebody specificly doing that swap. The 4l80e is tough but it sucks that it eats so much power.

Got a 6.0/4L80 in my 72. Trans tunnel was cut out and replaced rather than made to fit with the hammer trick. I have great access to the trans lines, trans bolts and the electrics. The only issue i have run into so far is the shifter since the car is a column shift. I ordered a kit from Ididit and should have it today. If I get a chance it will be installed in the next week or so. As far as the crossmember went its been moved back and cut down a little. The TH400 crossmember was used for this.

Yeah i agree you will need a bigger trans tunnel. I have a 4l60e in my 70 chevelle and its right against the tunnel. I could jus imagine the bigger 4l80e.Definitely the crossmember needs to go back.

I am putting a similar setup in my 70. 427 iron block backed with the 4l80e. I plan to start working on putting it in next week sometime. I need to figure out which oil pan to run first.

I'm running a 6.0L/4L80E combo in my '72 using the stock crossmember, moved back and the mounting tab cut and welded to the back of the crossmember. No trans tunnel mods except for a couple of spots massaged with a bfh, but nothing major. I'm using a stock F-body pan and BRP style motor mounts. You can get away with this setup if you install the engine and trans separately...they won't clear the crossmember/firewall if you try to install them together. I have a little more angle to the driveline this way than I originally wanted, but I don't really think it should end up giving me any problems as long as my pinion angle matches up to it.
